We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikayla Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikayla, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risks are such beautiful gifts in life. The older I get, the more I realize how short and fragile life is, and I think most, if not all of our greatest triumphs and lessons come from being willing to take risks and try new things. Albert Einstein’s quote “I’ve never failed, I’ve only found 1,000 ways that don’t work” is the motto I live my life by because as long as you’re not taking dangerous, life threatening risks- you will either learn a lesson that you’ve needed, or you will absolutely soar- so there’s really no losing!

In terms of the role taking risks has played in both my life and my career- it’s truly been the catalyst for everything that I am today. I have such an unwavering faith in both myself and my becoming that I’ve always been willing to take the leaps that I feel pulled too. Just in the last 8 years I’ve gone from a college basketball prospect, to a teen mom, to a personal trainer, to a suma cum laude college graduate with more honors than anyone in my class, to a content creator, to a health coach, to an apparel entrepreneur who moved 1,500 miles away from all I’ve ever known with my two kids and partner and I’ve barely scratched the surface of all that I am going to become. We as humans have SO many beautiful gifts, and the potential to do ANYTHING we set our minds too, but that transformation and expansion can only begin at the end of our comfort zones. So with that said, at the end of my comfort zone is exactly where you can always find me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are SO many things currently keeping me busy professionally, and I am indescribably excited for all of them. I unexpectedly left my job as a  Health Coach for Noom two months ago and have leapt head first into launching a well-being coaching business called Redefining Well, while simultaneously finalizing the final details to launch my lifestyle and cozy-wear brand called Unmastered Collective.

Although they’re technically two separate projects, they’re both organically rooted in the purpose of creating safe spaces and conversations to show up exactly as you are while also leaving room to evolve, grow and expand into whoever you’ve always dreamed of becoming.

Redefining well is my well-being coaching and consulting business that helps ambitious women redefine what well-being looks like for their unique and full lives. I guide them in defining what well looks like uniquely for them, and then support them in strategically implementing sustainable, daily well-being practices that help them feel their very best, regardless of the season of life.

Along similar lines, Unmastered Collective is my lifestyle cozy-wear brand that is a wearable hype woman for all of your seasons of becoming. Whether you’re absolutely thriving, or just barely making it through the day, our cozy pieces have written reminders to keep you grounded in the notion that your work in progress is complete magic.

It can be so easy, especially as mothers, to feel like we are constantly dropping the ball, and falling short of who we are trying to become while at  the intersection of parenthood and dreams. As a result, we’ve intentionally married the power of words, and the “look good, feel good” premise to create wearable reminders that your work in progress is always enough.

Since this is only just the beginning, I’m currently offering 3 different coaching offers, and prepping for a pre-order launch for the first Collection of Unmastered Collective.

What’s coming down the pipeline is a membership community, a public community, well-being workshops, a newsletter, a podcast, a book, and SO much more. This is the first time in my life that I’m able to laser focus on materializing the vision that’s been so patiently unfolding within me, and I am so excited to see all that is becoming.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am the culmination of my children, Kayden and Kai, my person Alvin, my family and my truest friends that have never left my side along this ever evolving journey of life. Every bit of who I am and who I have yet to become have been refined and redefined by their love, support and lessons and I can wholeheartedly say that I would not be here without them. Everything I do is for the people I love, so this shout out goes to them xoxo
