We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike “Blu” Priester and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike “Blu”, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To me risk is an inevitable necessity. I am a huge believer in the saying “No Risk, No Reward”. If there were no risks to take in my life, I can honestly say that I would not be in the position I am in as far as my career and life. I put my formal education, degree, and occupation on the proverbial shelf 2 years ago to follow my passion of videography and music. To date I have successfully worked in tandem with 2 of Atlanta’s iconic rappers, 2 former NFL players, one who now works in film and is currently nominated for an Emmy, and countless other very satisfied clients. Every time I have taken a “leap of faith”, or risk, it has paid off in a major way! If there is one thing I’d like for everyone to take away from this small blurb is that no matter what happens, LIFE GOES ON!!! So jump already because you’ll always have the experience to pass on!!!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Everything I do I try to do to best of my abilities. The Olè Dude is former Armed Forces and always told me that “no matter what a man does in life, he must always do it with pride.” So when it came to my passion for music and film, I took every opportunity to become the best. I think that’s something that allows me to stand out from the rest, my tenacity and work ethic. I have a unique style of video editing due to my ear for sound & music. This allows me to put a lot more detail into the work without it feeling overpowering.
I wouldn’t be where I am today professionally if I had turned away from the opportunity when it was presented. “Stay home and play C.O.D. all night or fly to Vegas and shoot a wedding tomorrow?” This was the question I literally asked myself before I started. It was hard and nerve racking because one I had never shot a wedding, and two I had never shot for anyone besides myself. It was far from easy, but I overcame the obstacles that arose because I had faith in my teachings growing up.
Mom always told me to hold my head high and to speak with conviction. “The only one that knows what you can do is you, Mike” she would say this to me and it would create a fire under me. I couldn’t let anyone define my work, my style, or my greatness because I was the only one that knew my story. All I had to do was show up and show them my DOPE
So for everyone reading this, just know that I believe in my DOPE and I believe in my brands DOPE!!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m always in the studio so we are spending every day in the BluVision Studio or at “G.O.T. Sounds Recording Studios” in my neck of the woods, Broad River!!! (RivaSide stand up!!!)
Now the nights are always young so Monday we are definitely hitting Main Street to grab food and drinks at “The Grand on Main”, then across the street for some live music and more drinks at “The Main Course.” Tuesday is karaoke night in the city so we are at “My House Bar & Restaurant” all night! Lol… Wednesday we gotta grab wings from “Two Notch Bar n Grill” and turn up while there. Thursday is thirst trap night so we have to hit “Aces Lounge” on the RIVA! Friday I like to take it downtown to “The Vista” and go to “Social Bar” for the music and the sights of the city!!! Saturday is grown and sexy nights so I start at “The Sheraton Rooftop Bar” and end the night at a local old head spot called “R&B’s Grill” because the vibes are always right and DJ D-Dub is always hitting.
Honestly we don’t need an itinerary if you’re riding with Blu in the city! It’s always gonna be an experience when you with me! I live life!!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a HUGE shoutout to my wife & best friend, Ashlee. She has watched and supported from the side as I dreamed, stopped believing, and even quit jobs to get here. She never let me quit and I thank her for it everyday! I also want to give a shout out to my 2 year old daughter Blue. She was the inspiration behind the name before she was even born. BluVision is also Blue’s vision. Last but not least, I want to thank my father, “The Olé Dude.” He gave me the $250 for my first camera! He saw my passion and supported me ever since.
