We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Campo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
We are the grandchildren of Sicilian immigrants, so we take pride in everything we do, make, or put our names on! We all grew up working and hustling and loving serving people! Today everything is different, there is no action! I have to wait around like everybody else…..can’t even get food! Last week I ordered pasta with marinara and I got noodles and ketchup!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
A family-owned and operated landmark for 77 years! Authentic cheesesteaks, old school hoagies and locally bottled beers in Philadelphia’s Historic District.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them back to the 90’s when Philly still felt like Philly!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ambrose and Rose Campo probably never anticipated that the small grocery store and butcher shop on which they built their lives in 1947 would still be standing nearly 76 years later. Campo’s Philly cheesesteaks and hoagies are built on a foundation of quality, family, community, and hard labor. Personal service (or, as we like to call it, “love”) has been the single most important factor in our long-term success.

Campo’s is still a family run sandwich shop that is still cranking out Philly’s best sandwiches. Located in Old City with outside patio seating on America’s Most Historic mile, Campo’s perfectly marbled ribeye steaks, old style hoagies, and great local beer selection sets them apart from everybody else. They have been featured on the Food Network, as well as many local news and media publications. Today Campo’s offers vegan and gluten free alternatives to their local favorites and a kids menu! The Official cheesesteak of the Philadelphia Phillies!
