We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Capes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
There is no clear or set path when you’re trying to break into filmmaking, so for me, as a writer/actor sometimes you have to create your own lane to get your work seen and out there at a significant level. After years of putting the work in and honing my craft, opportunity finally met me half way and that gave way to creating a production company with my creative partners, who are also great my friends. It’s a huge opportunity to find an investor who believes, not only in your creative project, but also believes in you and my thought process is always don’t mess this up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am extremely proud to have made my first feature film a reality. With art and creativity, it just takes time and it’s not easy because it’s mostly rejection. But, over time you realize you were sharpening all your tools for the day that someone sees you and says yes. The real work starts then and everything, and I mean everything you’ve learned along the way will help you in ways you probably never saw coming. Also the connections you make along the way and the strong relationships you’ve fostered will be your greatest support. I love movies so my brand and story is about someone who loves the idea of making movies and finally got a shot to show what potential I may have.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love entertainment and great food but also have this newfound love for tiki bars as well. They just have this creativity and culture behind them that attracts an adventurous crowd. I would have to do Disneyland because I grew up with it and love going for fun. There’s also a great tiki bar near there called Strong water that’s next level creative. We would have to go down to Santa Monica/Venice for a beach day and some bars. I like a lot of the restaurants, wine bars and lounges in silver lake, echo park, and highland park as well. It would really be a whirlwInd food and drink tour with splashes of tiki caves throughout. Plus we’d have to go see some comedy shows!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many that have helped shape my life, inspired me, supported me and kept me going, this list would go on and on. I’ll say my mom is my north light and kept me believing in myself when I was more than ready to quit and the amount of wonderfully supportive friends that came through for me when my dream became a reality was incredible. Making a film takes a village and my village really stepped up to help me get it done. The power of someone believing in you is the most significant support you can have in your life.
