We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikey Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mikey, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
There are so many that I could say. Over the past few years, there have been plenty of different habits that I have grasped in order to keep it pushin’! I try not to be on my phone as much nowadays because at one point I felt like I was addicted to it, especially when it came to social media. So now I schedule myself, I try not to engage early in the morning, because I’d rather process my thoughts and ideas instead of being bombarded by so many different things that social media carries. I also began writing my ideas down no matter how crazy they are because I believe in the power of manifestation, especially if you are working hard towards your goals and dreams. Plug to the app Milanote, it’s been a game-changer for me when it comes to organizing myself. You have to stay organized as best as you can, because then many times you will end up struggling, and we don’t want that! Baby steps…
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make music and YouTube videos! I love being in front of the camera and behind it. What’s different about me is that I don’t move like anyone else. What I create is what I want to create and I think that’s something that makes me different than most artists and creatives, I have such a long way to go still. I’m proud of my accomplishments thus far like finishing college while putting out my first ever album. It was a lot! I’m excited about more future projects and working hard to make YouTube a full-time career for me. New music as well, and working with more people that keep me going and inspired. It wasn’t easy getting to where I am now, it’s been a long road of ups and downs, and I’m not the person I was yesterday, many things can change a person in their lifetime. I know it’s good to say no, speak up for what’s right, and don’t worry about other people’s opinions, because at the end of the day they don’t matter. I just want to make an impact, not to be seen but heard so that way I can make a change, make people feel..anything, because that’s all life really is.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely go to a theme park, there are so many out here including Disneyland and Universal Studios. There are so many good places to eat, and I don’t mean like these low-class fancy restaurants, the best places to go are in rural areas…and if you’re from Los Angeles you know exactly what I mean. If it’s sunny we could go to the beach, or even to Santa Monica Pier. There are many hidden gems in LA, you just have to open your eyes and look.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Most of my friends that have helped me along the way, my family as well. I could list names but most of them know how I feel about them and how grateful I am for them because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. Also “Burn After Writing” is a journal that helped me a lot the past year, especially with reflection of my life so far. Every person I have ever interacted with has moved me in some way or form. It’s something I don’t take for granted.
