We had the good fortune of connecting with Miles Regis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miles, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Making sure that I surround myself with professional and intelligent experienced people from several different fields. It is important to keep learning and applying other people’s areas of expertise into your practice.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art comes from my life experiences. It is a true peek into who I am. I am an aart activist and I am concerned about putting positive messages out there that can affect change and bring a sense of hope and healing. Every piece comes from a place of absolute authenticity. The style has varied over the years and I love experimenting with various mediums. One week I am hot on collage, the next I a m painting faces on fabric ofr clothing, the next its splashy large scale abstract canvas creations. Then I may switch gears and work on a song to accompany an AR or digital installation piece. Lately, I have found excitement working with sculptural creations. I figure if I am passionate and excited about what I create then there is a greater chance that it resonates strongly with those who are experiencing what I create. And right now I am damn excited about all that is coming out of my studio.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Los Angeles there are so many options. I would say it depends on the taste of that visiting friend tho. Someone new to LA would need to see all the LA sights. The Hollywood sign, Walk of Fame, and Beverly Hills shopping and Venice Beach etc. So i would start there and get all the touristy things out of the way and then give them a sense of what my life is like living in LA. I love the gallery scene so I would visit all the happening exhibits in various galleries and art institutions. If there is a good concert at The Hollywood Bowl or something then that is always a good time. I would want the visitor to experience downtown, also the beach communities. As far as restaurants go, there are too many to name. I am a very moody when it comes to food so I may do one of my favorite food trucks on Wilshire Blvd or take them to Soho Wharehouse. Or give them a taste of Trinidadian cuisine at Trini Style down in Inglewood. And then there’s a good back yard hang out. Some of my most memorable LA moments are just chilling with a well curated group of friends enjoying each other’s company in a relaxing environment.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is a difficult one. I would say just about everyone on my team. All my super supportive artist friends. My social media friends and followers who are the most supportive and encouraging out there. My spiritual guides. Angels who walk this earth in support of my journey. My family. My village.
