We had the good fortune of connecting with Milky Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Milky, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor for me was working with the right people. I learned so much just from working with other musicians/engineers and watching how they go about the creative processes. From an early stage, I reached out to artists on instagram or Soundcloud whenever I thought their music was really good or inspiring, and made an effort to collaborate with them or bounce ideas back and forth. I owe a lot of my own musical style and success to my early collaborators and I’m continuing to put in an attempt to connect with more creatives individuals.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I always had a strong interest in music, and this interest was only strengthened when I started learning to produce and song-write during college. However, I always felt the pressure to pursue a more ‘professional’ and ‘stable’ career, so I considered music as more of a hobby during college. After graduating college, I worked full time in a career unrelated to music, but after a couple of years, I noticed that I was losing a lot of my creative inspiration and becoming too comfortable working a 9-5 job. During covid, I had a lot of time to reflect on my values and what direction I wanted my life to head towards – and after a lot of contemplation, I recently decided to ‘chase my dreams’ and pursue music full time. I would like to encourage others out there who also have creative or ‘unstable’ hobbies to not feel afraid to explore their interests more, especially if you’re young. I find that there are lot of really talented creatives out there whose skills go to waste because they settle for a safer option that they’re not happy with.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I just moved to Sydney a few days ago so it’s difficult to answer this question. But if my friend visited LA (where I was for 2 years before moving to Sydney), I would take them to beaches on the westside, hikes in the Malibu area, and Koreatown for some bomb food & drinks. I’m a pretty outdoorsy guy, so I really enjoy going things like hiking, hanging out at the beach, visiting parks and viewpoints, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to some of my early collaborators – Frad, Hayne, Jimmy Brown, Sway Bleu, and Michelle.
