We had the good fortune of connecting with Mimi Foxx and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mimi, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My all time favorite quote that I truly feel I live by would be

” success happens when preparation meets opportunity”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would definitely say that creating music for me has always just been a better way for me to fully express my thoughts and feelings without fear of holding back. I think what has definitely set me apart would be my wide range of genres that I create in. I definitely have a specific sound, However I’m always finding ways to switch and combine genres. I’ve never felt as though I had to be stuck or married to one specific genre. I have always loved pop, electronic, and R&B music , so switching between them has always very felt true to who I am as an artist

I got to where I am today by continuously working on myself and my music because dedication and discipline to your craft is extremely important in this industry , even when it feels like you’re the only one that is seeing your hard work.
The duration of my music career this far has definitely not been easy or for the faint of heart. You have to be willing to give even when you don’t think you have anything left in you. Creating music and being an artist is a very vulnerable thing to have to do. You’re basically sharing your soul with the world for everyone to see and it can be taxing emotionally.
I think the biggest thing for me was learning how to block out the negativity. Often times when you share your art with the world, not everyone is going to love it and sometimes rejection and criticism can’t beat you down or make you feel unworthy or like you aren’t good enough to make it. For years I had to remind myself day in and day out that I was good enough, my music was good enough.
A lot of people don’t realize the amount of time and energy you have to put in to make music. Its a huge it is a huge time and financial investment. I worked full time on top of making music my entire life, working 60+ hours a week and owning my own business to be able to turn around and fully invest in my career year after year. As an independent artist its tough, but remembering to be proud of the hard work you put into something and when things finally start happening you will feel so accomplished.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take my best friend to Scottsdale, AZ. I love the dining, shopping, and nightlife in this area. One of my favorite spots to go for dinner would be Sol Mexican, great vibes, live music, Mexican food and amazing margaritas. Another favorite place would be AZ 88 its a cool bar that also serves food and they are known for their cocktails especially their martinis, its the cutest place for a girls night and a fun atmosphere. Downtown Scottsdale has some amazing clubs if you wanna go out fora night. my absolute favorite club to go to would be Cake Nightclub , the inside is just incredible and the music is great, some of the best djs and dancing. I also love going to Sedona for something more relaxing. Sedona is known to be a very healing and spiritual city in Arizona. Hiking, food, and exploring the beautiful red rocks and healing energy. If I need to escape and reset and re charge I always book an airbnb or stay at some of their hotels and enjoy nature. Sedona is definitely one of the coolest places to go and just be in nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my dearest friends , Gigi and Lauryn, and my producer Velvet for supporting me in my endeavors, as well as the other close knit friends and loved ones in my circle that have dedicated time to supporting me in anyway, shape , or form all these years. I don’t know where I would be without the push from these amazing people and the way they constantly show up for me in whatever I need to keep making my dreams a reality.
