We had the good fortune of connecting with Marivel Rojas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marivel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always knew I wanted a career in a creative field since I was a little girl, and I found myself miserable behind a desk, after getting my degree in fashion design and entering the corporate world. Once I had my son, my life changed forever and I decided to be an example to him that it’s never too late to take a chance and follow my dream to be an artist and be my own boss.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The inspiration behind my art, is my career in fashion design, I grew up loving watercolor illustrations by famous costume designers like William Travilla and Elsa Schiaparelli. That along with my love for bold fluid lines and bright colors is what sets me apart. I draw what I love and nothing else, I think that sometimes there is pressure on artists to consistently come out with new work, but I only create as what comes naturally to me, that to me is the most important lesson.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a kid at heart, I would absolutely have to take a trip to all the theme parks in Southern California, Disneyland, Knotts and Universal Studios. You can’t go wrong with a fun day with amazing rides, snacks and memories!, also end the week with a fun concert at the Hollywood Bowl!. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Husband and son who are not only my motivation but my biggest supporters. I could not do this without them.
