We had the good fortune of connecting with Miquel Lazaro Cordero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miquel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been to stay true to my quality ideals and get to work with the best surf technology company.
The PerfectSwell(R) surf technology by the company American Wave Machines generates the best-quality beginner to high-performance artificial waves. My quality ideals have taken me to be the Lead Engineer at American Wave Machines and be at the front of the engineering and project departments of the company. AWM and I believe in staying true to our quality standards and it has been guiding us to our success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It has been quite a ride. Since I was promoted to Lead Engineer, I have been constantly developing the PerfectSwell(R) technology on new wave designs, wave quality and size, technology reliability, product development, user experience, and more. We went a long way and I couldn’t be more proud of the results in our most recent project PerfectSwell(R) Boa Vista Village in Sao Paulo, Brazil. PerfectSwell(R) Boa Vista Villag is the biggest PerfectSwell(R) pool in the world (more than double the size of any previous pool project). It currently stands as the best wave pool in the world.

My biggest lessons on the way have been to rely on your team, create great connections with experts and as many people involved at any step along the way, and listen carefully because every word can be a gem. Listening and empathizing can provide great guidance.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
California is a really special place. It is full of gems in all aspects. I am an active person and, of course, I love surfing and the ocean.
I have spent several years cruising and discovering the north LA 101 coast. Any spots along the way, from Malibu to Topanga and Leo Carrillo, all have shown me their beauty and I keep going there.
I love to cruise around Venice for its energy, interesting people, and beautiful shops and restaurants.
The LA mountains are another of my favorite spots, I would take anyone there for a hike and it still surprises me how close it is to the beach!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out to the American Wave Machines team for their passion and motivation, to all the surfers who have expressed their joy and happiness after experiencing the PerfectSwell(R) waves, and to my wife for her constant encouragement and support.
All of them fill up my energy tank to keep pushing every day.
