We had the good fortune of connecting with Miriam Lando and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miriam, what do you attribute your success to?
We sincerely believe that the joy of clean, healthy, elevated food made from scratch and impeccable service is not reserved only to the “fortunate” ones. Everyone deserves this right.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets you apart from others? ————————————
We are a unique catering concept that adds twist and flair to foods from the Italian, American, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Asian, and Mexican cuisines.
With nearly 700 dishes and 100% Kosher ingredients that are always healthy and fresh, we possess the fantastic ability to custom tailor any choices to the Client’s dietary needs and preferences, including Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten Free, always with their budget in mind. AND WE BAKE!

What you are most proud of or excited about?
We take the most pride in never making anything “by the book”!
Our extraordinary chef Zippie the loving glue behind all of it.
Literally, Every dish is unique and made with our own twist to the original recipe. We are also proud to be a family owned, family run business; we are mom, dad, and daughter who work very closely together!
What excites us the most is being able to work with different people from all backgrounds, and the privilege of being a part of making their event or occasion more than special.

How did you get to where you are today business-wise?
We started sharing food with our friends and community first when the COVID-19 pandemic hit; We dropped off meals free-of-charge to those affected by Covid-19. We realized that we loved cooking for others so much, we wanted to make it permanent! After hours upon hours of recipe research, and gaining more than a just few pounds trying it all, Zippie’s was born with ready-to-go clientele from the pandemic times.
We are also excellent at helping our “never done it before” customers with their event management challenges – using our experience and a nice long list of our supplier and vendor partners – once again around realistic budgets.

Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.?
Our main challenge is that, with the slew of the food establishments around, it is very hard to break through people perceptions, prejudices, and stereotypes – until of course our food finally touches peoples pallets. Then – everything magically changes 🙂 So our main lesson here – let the food speak for itself!!!

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Our love for food and cooking is rooted in more than 120 years of family history, time-tested traditions, and recipes around Ukraine and Poland. Literally generations of wonderful professional and hobbyist cooks on all sides of the family for whom Love was the first ingredient.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would first start with what is the best in LA and California – nature. We would certainly begin with Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and Santa Monica, gradually making our way to Malibu and different canyons and hiking parks. From there we would take towards Mulholland Drive and its spectacular and scenic view of both San Fernando and Downtown Los Angeles.
Or Griffith Park and the Observatory, with, of course the iconic HOLLYWOOD sign. Some fun should be there as well – Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards for the touristy things. Who doesn’t want to see the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Kodak Theatre, Chinatown, or Madam Tussaud’s? This is not to downplay the Miracle Mile with it’s LACMA and the Automotive Museum.
Food wise – it’s worthy to check out Santa Monica, Koreatown, and some areas around Figueroa/Convention Center. Don’t forget to find out about star performances at Hollywood Bowl.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts the Kabbalah Center in Los Angeles and especially their spiritual community for their fierce support, love, and honest feedback through our entire process. This kind of business “incubation” is beyond imaginable.
