We had the good fortune of connecting with Missy Andria and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Missy, how do you think about risk?
Working in the entertainment industry is full of risks and I think a lot of us creatives thrive on it. Risk was, and is, the catalyst for my entire career. I gave up years work towards my former aspiring career, my home state, family, friends, and stable income from a day job to work as a makeup artist. When you break it down like that, it sounds a bit crazy. But it was all gradual and was done with baby steps. I’m personally someone who’s a planner so any and all risk I took was thought out. In the end, I feel like it was all necessary. Without it, I really don’t think I would be doing this. It’s played an undeniably important role in my life and career. . As scary as it can be sometimes, I find in the end that all of it ends up being worth it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like what sets me apart from others is the way that I stay positive no matter how crazy this career gets. I’m always excited to just keep growing as an artist. I got here today as a professional because of that attitude. I look at the hard days as just that, a hard day. Getting here wasn’t an overly difficult but it hasn’t been easy either. I didn’t have anyone to refer to since I was the only one in my circle of peers and family who was going for this field. And I’m still trying to expand my network and get to work on things I’d like to have my name attached to, putting in work to get where I want to be in this field. Just trying to get better and move up every day. In this ongoing journey, I’ve learned that not all connections are long term and that that’s okay. I’ve also learned that you have to be your biggest push and supporter. I want the world to know that I care deeply and that I’m persistent. In a world where there’s so many things to be passionate about, I have to be passionate about my passion for the craft. I want people to know that that’s why I do what I do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve got to be honest, I’m not one who explores as much as I would like to. I haven’t even seen a whole lot of L.A. myself! I came here and went straight to work and school, graduated, then started working. So if it were a week long trip, I’d definitely check out some things I also haven’t seen. I’d check out the best beaches, restaurants, and things like that. I feel like the most fun and interesting things to check out are things where both of you are going in kind of blind and experiencing something together for the first time. I wish I had more of a fun answer but I’m at a point where I need the best time and places in L.A. shown to me still!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My nana watches and looks at all the special effects work I do even though she doesn’t like gross or scary stuff. My dad assisted me on a movie once. They get the most credit for sure. But I also need to give some love to the people outside of my family (and those who are like family) who love and support me too. To my friends back home who are always engaging in my posts and hyping me up, to those out here who refer me for work, give me constructive criticism on how to improve, and just overall give me love and support as an artist. I feel very lucky to have support from so many people. They know exactly who they are because they’ll be one of the first people reading this so this is dedicated to all of them!
