We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Thorne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Misty, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My staff and customers have always been the priority. I care about them the way I care about my family. Balance for me is finding joy within the hustle. Which in restaurant life is everyday. Being at work is my home. Truly caring about the people I surround myself with makes those tough days worth it. My work is life. My life is work. One in the same.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
You can’t have a successful restaurant without putting in the hours. It’s that simple. Grind it out. Another way I’ve managed to last 18 years owning a restaurant is to enjoy it. The service industry is hard, but are always way to make it fun. Starting with an attitude adjustment. And a commonly used quote I live by, “work harder, no one cares”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take her to the ocean of course. A quintessential Newport Beach trip isn’t complete without going down to the peninsula and strolling on the board walk. Grab a coffee and pastry from the Newport Coffee company. Hop on the bikes and head down towards the wedge. Pick up lunch along the way, eat on the sand. Rent a Duffy and cruise around the bay during sunset. Dock at Buddha’s Favorite, the absolute best sushi ever, and have dinner. End with dessert at Lido Village.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My boyfriend, Blake. He’s the “behind it all”guy. Always there to help without needing the recognition. My emotional rock.
