We had the good fortune of connecting with Monai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monai, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art itself is a form of expression. For me that art began with dancing and singing. No matter what was going on in my life, I could always use dance as an escape or sing my feelings away. I think its very important to be able to have those outlets to channel all the feelings and emotions we sometimes cant say or dont know how to phrase it. Music and the arts has always been that outlet for me and I want to now be able to be that for someone else.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a girl from a small town outside of Detroit Mi called Inkster. All my life I have been surrounded by music and the arts. My mother was an actress, choreographer and dancer, while my father played instruments and together they ran a production company. My mom tells everyone I tried to sing before I could talk. I was literally born to do entertainment. Im what they like to call a triple threat, althrough I do way more than 3 things haha but thats what sets me apart from everyone else. You can put me in a room and I can fill 3 or 4 roles myself just like that. My drive and dedication to my craft and making sure things are exactly how I want them makes that almost effortless.

Like any journey it hasn’t been easy by any means. There were plenty of time where I felt alone or I had trouble just figuring out who I was. However, the key to seeing results is just to never give up. Keep pushing through those hard times and keep your eyes on the prize. I’ve learned that it’s all up to you at the end of the day and you can literally do whatever you put your mind to. Your mind and your tongue are powerful tools.

I am very excited for the new year and the new opportunities it will bring. I am working on being more consistent with my music and performing more so I am excited for all that comes with. As well as networking and meeting new people. I want to grow and learn in my craft and this industry and thats my main focus right now.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day one: going downtown to gaze intrests and get some food, then relax and catch up Day two: Brunch at Mi.Mosa, shopping at Twelve Oaks, go to the Adventure Park, get food at Sedonas, go downtown and rollar skate, get drinks at Annex
Day three: Coney breakfast, nature adventures. Cj Berrymores, dinner at Mongolian Bbq, chill and play games at home
Day four: Greenfield village, dinner at Sugar Factory, hustling and drinks at Floods
Day five: Horseback riding, picnic on the beach, swimming, dinner at Fords Garage, watch a movie at the drive-in
Day six: Defy gravity, take pics at a selfie museum, lunch at A&W, go to the DIA, catch a sports game, go to a rooftop bar

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to anyone who has ever believed in me, and anyone who has ever taken a chance with me. I love you, I appreciate you. To my Grammy, who always pushed me to follow me dreams, everythings for you. 💜
