We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting this business was never having to rely on another business or corporation. It’s hard planning for the future If alot of jobs are constantly hiring and firing…due to wages. I find it best to be able to rely on myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that art is like beauty..its in the eye of the beholder..what I create and what someone else creates make look similar but the vibe is different from both..I strive to give off positive vibes in every piece that I create..I never create something if I’m not feeling into it..I never want to transfer weird energy in my creations. Running and business and creating all of my inventory definitely isn’t easy, but worth it. The biggest complaint I hear is that ” some dont have family support to buy from them, etc” but for me that was the easiest.. My biggest challenge was to have the confidence in myself. I would like to tell anyone thinking about starting a business Do it!! Take the leap!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Now that the world is slowly reopening we are still limited.. but I would start my week of at church (Amos memorial CME). During the week I would plan a beach day..which would include yoga and a picnic lunch. Shopping of course. When friends come to town that’s a definite.. but for my friends and I it would probably shopping downtown L A looking for inventory for our businesses lol.. On another day we would take a hike up Runyon Canyon after find a spot for cold pressed juice and enjoy.I would end the week with a cookout or bbq on my back patio with friends. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. Growing up with 2 parents in the home was a blessing. Although my father has passed away I still hear all of his encouraging words.”Never give up”, “You can do anything you put your mind too” and my favorite “always make sure you have your own money” as a child I didnt understand that one but now I do..My mother constantly reminds me of these sayings and I have passed them down to my son.. But her favorite is ” Always be a lady because you never know who is watching”.
