We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique De La Torre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monique, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I began this journey I really just wanted to do something that I enjoyed. Some of the main things that I focused on were, how could I bring organic wellness to my local community through my love for all things herbal and make it fun and delicious.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My love for Tea and herbs took on a path of it’s own when I started this company. I create various bottled herbal tea blends that aid in many health benefits. I also produce something truly great and rare in my plant based and sugar free mylk teas. Yes, sugar free!! I managed to make mylk teas fun, delicious & healthy. When I added myllk teas to my arsenal of bottled tea blends. I was a little skeptical myself at first. But everyone seemed to love them. that is when I knew I had something special. All my blends are readily available in recyclable bottles, pre-sweetened and ready to drink, making them perfect for someone looking for a grab-and-go treat. I like to think that I am part of the solution in changing the way people treat themselves from the inside out. Being healthy can be fun and delicious. This whole process has been a learning one. I am still learning and growing and excited to see what the future holds for this big dream of mine.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
some of my favorite LA spots are …Perch located in the heart of downtown LA, Flying Embers taproom also located in downtown Los Angeles, has a great indoor/outdoor vibe and is pet friendly. Also Lokels only cafe (arts district) and Chinatown location that features some of the very best local artisan chefs and small businesses. And last but not least we cannot forget all the surrounding beaches. Long Beach, CA I think deserves way more credit than it is given. so many great shops, small businesses, family-friendly beaches, very dog friendly, and always has events going on in this very inclusive city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without the support of my Fiance, kids, and my best friend I truly do not know how I would have continued to pursue my dream of owning my own small business. There have been many days where giving up seemed like the right thing to do because I kept hitting bumps in the road. But with all of them cheering me on how could I just quit? so major thanks to them all for pushing me and encouraging me to continue to do what I love.
