We had the good fortune of connecting with Monk Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monk, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I’d have to say everything that brought me to where I am now, all the habits that have benefited from, all came from this habit-Meditation. This is where my focus, consistency, and direction came from.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My professional career began to take shape due to my personal life being such a mess. I was an alcoholic dealing with bleeding issues, lost, horrible at relationships, depressed, and having anxiety. I started to heal my body and mind with connecting every day in meditation. Now, I help others to do the same by getting to the root of the issues and creating “growing mechanisms “ instead of coping mechanisms that will most likely take you to another set of issues. I help people to step into their power through my method of coaching that brought me out of a very dark place.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough one because I don’t get out that much anymore and when I do it’s most likely in nature even though I live in the city, As far as food goes it would have to be a vegan restaurant (there are many great ones here) There’s also a lot of great parks and redwoods in the area. Id definitely take them to Lake Merritt in Oakland. They have everything you’d want this area. It’s a one stop shop for a good time. They restaurants, shops, bars, vendors, etc.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d have to say it’s been a pretty lonely journey as far as self development, but I’d have to give a shout out to my wife Tammy Coleman for supporting me from the very beginning of my transformation, even though it probably didn’t make sense to her. Too many books to name, but they definitely played a part as a whole.
