We had the good fortune of connecting with Morey Croson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For me, my business is perfect because it is two things I am passionate about which is athletic development and technology. The choice was between pursuing being a football coach which I love the sport of football or starting my own business. At the end of the day it came down to being a great opportunity at 23 years old to try out starting my own business and chasing my passion. Looking back there are certainly choices that I would go back and change given the opportunity, but starting Performance Lab of California is something I definitely would not change.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our biggest differentiator is the focus on science and biomechanics in our training programs. We make sure our athletes understand injury risks in their sport and therefore stay healthy while improving performance outcomes. I am most proud of the online side of what we are doing. When I first started there would be a lot of athletes that would say they wish I was closer to them so developing an online component has allowed me to impact people all over the world. I got to where I am today by constantly learning and investing time and money into myself as well as my business. Additionally, consistently setting goals that force me to stretch and become a better version of myself has allowed me to grow along with my business. There are definitely difficult times and a lot of self doubt but just having a strong reason why and a great passionate for what I do is how I overcame challenges. Also, I am someone who always puts stress and pressure on me so when there is external stress is makes it much easier to recognize, adapt and overcome. The lessons I have learned along the way is there will always be another opportunity, another challenge and another day. We will have great days and we will have bad days, what’s important is how you handle them. Also, do not be afraid of taking risks, that is the only way you will grow and get better. I want the world to know about me and my brand that we practice what we preach. I workout 6-7 days a week. I am constantly studying and learning how to help people run faster, jump higher, throw better and stay healthy. My word is all I have and I will stick to it and we will always put our customer’s success before anything else.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I was going to show someone a great time I would take them to Korean BBQ because cooking food while hanging out and talking is always fun. I would take them on a hike through Runyon or one of the many cool hiking locations we have. Go to Santa Monica or Malibu beach to see the beautiful views of the mountains as well as the beaches. I went to 71 above before the pandemic hit and that is a cool place I would love to take anyone who came to visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Someone who I really look up to is Grant Cardone. It is a little different industry as he is mostly in sales training but as all small business owners know in order to grow we have to do sales and marketing. So his guidance, outlook and philosophy have been an integral part in my own overall growth.
