We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Balavage and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been my ability to release the parts of my business that aren’t working.

I mentally burn my entire business down every few weeks, and when I’m really ready to give it all up, I go through my Checklist of Rational Thinking:

1. I text my bestie and tell her what I’m up to so she can talk me off the ledge (or just sit next to me for awhile)
2. I write down at least 10 “wins” from my business that I can think of, whether it’s getting a new email subscriber, signing a client, or watching a client succeed.
3. I ask the universe to show me if I should keep going or throw in the towel.

Without fail, especially with that last one, I get a totally random DM or email from a friend or a stranger telling me how much more work means to them and that I should keep going.

When I look at the data, I can see where the success is in my business, and I prioritize my energy to work on what’s working rather than focusing on what isn’t working.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
After 2 decades in the corporate world, I went full-time with my yoga business, Splendid Yoga, established a private clientele specializing in acute trauma injuries, and grew an online subscription yoga studio, all while traveling the world teaching yoga.

Other yoga teachers noticed what I was doing and asked how I was doing it, so I started business coaching to teach them the basics of business I had learned working in marketing, PR, logistics, and accounting.

Doctors and therapists noticed me too, and then they started hiring me to help them break free from the western traditions of running a business so that they could escape the overwhelm and burnout that was ruining their lives.

Now, I do business coaching for yoga teachers, healers, and spiritual entrepreneurs, teaching them heal their people-pleasing ways, establish strong boundaries, to trust their intuition, and to seek ease and pleasure in their business.

My primary message as both a business coach and as a yoga teacher is: life can feel easier if you’re taking care of yourself. The details of life may not actually change- we still have war and famine and debt and racial and economic injustice. But if you get overwhelmed and burnt out, you can’t help anyone, so you have to start by healing yourself in order to heal the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Cafe Gratitude, Crossroads Kitchen, Pura Vita, and Plant for vegan restaurants on the West Side. If you’re in LA, you have to go surfing in Venice at least once, and you have to take photos at LACMA. Hike Escondido Falls and meditate on the beach in Malibu. Practice yoga at Light on Lotus Yoga and have coffee at Coffee Connection. Go to a show at the Pantages and get drinks at the Ace Hotel rooftop. Shop on Abbot Kinney and get margaritas at Chulita.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to dedicate this to Devin Roscillo, my business bestie who lets me whine to her when I want to burn everything down but never lets me actually do it.
