We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan DiFucci and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
This question is very interesting to me because I feel like the typical entrepreneur / business owner has a very detailed plan and steps they want to take to start their own business. I, however, did not. I truthfully never thought I would be a business owner, especially at such a young age. I was fresh out of graduating high school and taking courses at my community college when things began to take off. I offered a special for creative portraits and became quickly booked! I was working a local part time job which I hated, and decided to take the leap and pursue photography full time! It has been the best decision. After a few months of bookings is when I decided to take the next official steps to make my business “real”. I registered with the state, filled out tons of paperwork, and shortly after, opened my own photography studio! While it has been a crazy, and at times scary journey, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In the creative industry, it is all about setting yourself apart from others. One way that is most important to me, is my relationship my clients. I do everything I can to make sure my clients are comfortable, having fun, and feel the best they can about themselves! I believe that if I do those things, beautiful photos will follow. I can confidently say that my clients know that they can come to me if they ever need anything and that is such a win for me. Many friendships in my life are with people who started off as just a client and became so much more. This directly translates over to sessions! When both of us are having fun and relaxed, the session is a success. I’m most proud of that.

Getting to where I am today has for sure had its challenges, as does everything in life. Many bumps in the roads, and questioning myself and my craft. Ultimately I am beyond grateful that this is what I get to wakeup and do everyday! One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned and quotes I live my life by is, “Everything, in time”. Being patient, keeping your head down and working hard gets you exactly where you need to be. I was able to open my own photography studio at 20 years old by pushing through any challenges and being patient!

I try my absolute hardest to be as transparent as I can be with my clients and support system. When it comes down to it, I’m a human too. I feel like it can be easy for outsiders to look in and think that this is all just smooth sailing, and because of luck. Which thankfully it has been a fairly smooth ride, but it has also been extremely challenging as a young business owner. I want everyone to know how hard I work to make any experience with me as enjoyable as possible!

I recently began hosting workshops and retreats for fellow creatives as a way to build an amazing creative community. These events have been extremely successful and they’re a great way to network. Being in this industry can sometimes feel a little lonely, as it’s one of the few jobs where you don’t work alongside coworkers everyday! These have become so beneficial to me, as I know they have for others too, in creating a safe space for us to learn without judgement, and create magic together!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite things to do in my hometown / nearby areas would for sure be spending time at the beach! I LOVE bringing my friends and family to the beach no matter what time or season. In my cute hometown Vermilion, there’s an abundance of small family owned restaurants and shops that are a must see. So many unique places that really make visiting memorable.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people I can credit some of my success to in several ways. One person that stands out the most however, would be my dad. He is also a business owner and has been such a saving grace for me while getting my business off the ground. He knew exactly what I needed to do, who to talk to, and walked me through every step of the way. I like to think I was lucky enough to get some of his greatest qualities. His determination, motivation, and passion has all inspired me to be the same way. He always tells me “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life”. I can truly not thank him enough for always having my back and encouraging me to continue doing what I love no matter what.
