Meet Morgan Roberts | Musical Artist, Teacher, Events Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Pursuing a creative career didn’t really feel like a choice. I knew I wanted to be in love with my life and nothing made me happier than making music and performing. Figuring out what I wanted to study in college was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made. So I went to school to learn the business side of music and entertainment in order to make that dream a practical reality.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
While surviving capitalism has been the goal so far as a young adult, and it has been such a necessity to have a career outside my music, I believe I was put on this planet to perform and create. I am very excited to announce that my debut EP is in the works! This will launch my artist project – Moe Roberts.
As a queer person moving through a world of discomfort and even discrimination, I hope to be a safe space for other folks that feel less than or excluded from what is deemed to be normal. I think to be othered is such a super power in disguise. I wouldn’t be who I am today without the self-reflection that being different has encouraged. I really love that I haven’t fit with the status quo, and that’s something I often have to remind myself when I feel the struggles of surviving the world as it is now. I was never meant to fit into these boxes. That’s not my story.
My story is a story of acceptance and compassion. I hope that people can see that intention of love in every move I make – love for my art and love for community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I actually had the honor of bringing one of my lifelong best friends, Rhys, around town in September of last year when she visited from Texas – so I have the perfect itinerary! Her first day we spent in nature, driving up to the Sequoia National Forrest, perfect for nature lovers and just breathtaking. The next day we went to Universal Studios, which is always a good time for anyone who enjoys theme parks – my favorite section is Springfield. The following day we hit LACMA and the Academy Museum and ended our evening at Don Cuco for some great Mexican food. Since LA always has some film/TV popup happening, we were able to attend the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice popup, which was so fun and cool to get to have a limited time experience. We did make our way to the Warner Bros Studio Tour that same day, which I highly recommend; and while your in the area hit up El Carpintero for a killer seafood burrito. On her final day in town we went to Topanga Beach, which is perfect for a less populated beach moment. And I’m so grateful we ended up there because we got to eat at Reel Inn before it burned down in the January fires, which is such a shame, it was truly an incredible seafood place. That would be my perfect weeklong itinerary for a mix of nature, entertainment, and quintessential LA spots.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Creative pursuits are so collaborative, any glimpse success I’ve ever felt has been because of the support I’ve had on my journey. My partner, B Sharp is my biggest supporter, and I truly don’t believe I’d be where I am without him. My parents for supporting me in pursuing something creative despite the uncertainty. My friends!!! Marsha Smith, as a human, and her company MiniBop have been an inspiration in my life. Conrad Coriz has been an incredibly important mentor on my professional journey and has given me so much hope in good people in the business. Every vocal coach I’ve ever had – Maeve Riley, Tiah Giná, Christine Chambers – have all been instrumental in my trajectory. And the people who’ve really helped bring my sound together – Mel Fine, David Ellis, & Ardem Gourdikian. I know there’s so many more people to recognize, but these are the folks that come to mind immediately.
