Meet Moriah Lowe | Playlist Curator & A&R Assistant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Moriah Lowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Moriah, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life balance has definitely changed over the years. I tend to immerse myself in my work and sometimes can “work too hard or too long”. I always wanted to be quick with tasks and had a habit of dropping everything to get something done for my team. Once I started to feel the effects of burnout, I decided to change how I balanced tasks and personal time. Work started feeling like a chore instead of being fun, which isn’t what I want for myself. I want to be able to work and enjoy what I’m doing, as I’m sure everyone does, so I knew that I needed to start setting goals for myself.
I have two dogs who I love dearly, and I like to blame them for how I’ve changed my work life balance. Whether it’s taking 30 minutes to an hour to train them, or play with them in my backyard, I like to take that personal time to unplug and be in the moment. After all, they can’t just sit there all day without stimulation! I’ve also gotten back into reading over the last few months (thank you Booktok), so I love taking breaks in between hours to read a few chapters and give my eyes more of a break from technology.
Since changing my work life balance, I’ve found that I’m able to still get things done on time with a nice pace. There’s definitely a time and a place for everything, so I know that once work is done, it can wait for the next day. Unless it really can’t, then that’s a different story.![]()
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, the biggest part of my job is playlist curation. I run 12 playlists on We Do Awesome’s Spotify profile ranging in genres from pop to hip-hop to pop punk. With these playlists, we have a lot of independent artists who would like to be a part of it to help get their music out there. That’s why the structure of our playlists is half big named and established artists, and half independent artists. You could be a fan of Taylor Swift, and find an artist similar to her on our playlists that you wouldn’t have found otherwise!
It hasn’t been easy because a lot more goes into adding songs to a playlist and walking away. You have to market the playlists to get listeners that will listen to these artists, You have to build a brand on social media so artists know you’re out there. As someone who isn’t the best at marketing herself, it’s been a little hard trying to market this brand. Thankfully I’ve had interns with a large sense of creativity and countless ideas on how to grow our socials. Without them, I wouldn’t know what trends to follow, or how to aesthetically grab a follower’s attention. I’m so thankful for each intern that has helped me grow We Do Awesome!
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve been able to build through We Do Awesome. We have several artists who loop us in on their press releases and email marketing. They remember my name and submit their music to us on multiple occasions and for multiple releases! I think a big part of that has to do with the detail, attention, and passion I give every artist. If a playlist doesn’t have quite a large amount of streams, I share that with an artist so they know what to expect. If I think their song fits in a different playlist than the one they want to be a part of, I’ll have that conversation with them. I want them to feel confident with their projects in our hands even if we’re the smallest part of their journey! The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that most (if not all) artists are appreciative of literally any support they can get, big or small.![]()
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I grew up in Pasadena, so LA is very close to home. I know the area fairly well, but I can’t say I’m an expert. In a perfect week, I would absolutely do the full send California experience for a friend. We’d spend one day going to the beach, mountains, and desert all in 24 hours. The best in my opinion is beach sunrise, mountains during the day, and the desert at night. A full beach day would be a must as well, with a heavy cooler filled with ice cold drinks and snacks. I’d most likely make them wait in a 2 hour line for Howlin’ Rays right before opening. I’ve gone dozens of times at different times, and there’s nothing like that opening energy! I know, two hours sounds ridiculous, but if you know, you know. My family and I are fortunate enough to have Dodger season tickets, so a Dodger game would be in the itinerary for at least a day or two. You can’t beat brunch at Guerilla Tacos either! Their drinks are amazing, and the culinary creativity is unique and detailed! Anytime a friend visits the LA area, I feel like they need a sightseeing day! I’d take them specifically to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and take them to all the cool stores around there! Some favorites include FUNKO, Amoeba Music, and Icons of Darkness. There’s a lot of fun people watching opportunities around there too! Then of course, I’d bring them to a few shows! I love big concerts, but I also love artist showcases like We Found New Music, Writer’s Block, and soon We Do Awesome’s new shows “We Do Live”!![]()
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to dedicate a shoutout to my boss, Jazmine Valencia. I’ve been working with her for just under four years, and I feel like she’s positively impacted not only my confidence, but my work ethic as well. She’s been a great mentor who truly cares about my thoughts and ideas. When I started with her as an intern, I was in marketing. Once I realized that I wasn’t enjoying it very much, she helped me organize goals and passions to see what department I might fit better in. She’s pushed me to be brave and confident during networking events and honestly just in life. I can be extremely shy and a wallflower, especially at events. I’ve always been the person who wants others to come up to them as opposed to cutting in and trying to speak with them. The first time I approached someone at an event without her, I texted her that I had actually done it and she was genuinely happy for me and proud of me. She’s the kind of mentor I will always cherish!
