We had the good fortune of connecting with Moshe Capelouto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moshe, what do you attribute your success to?
The success of Minted and Precision Cut is due to a few factors: The major one being trust between our clients and our company. Our clients will either bring highly valuable diamonds to us where we create more value through our diamond cutting expertise, or they ask us to create personal and precious custom pieces likely to become family heirlooms. There has to be a great deal of trust between myself and the client. We’ve built that trust with our clientele over decades in L.A.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What makes Minted jewelry unique is the fact that we do in-house diamond cutting, and manufacturing. That has been our niche from day one. Very few jewelers worldwide have that capability, or are able to cut diamonds the quality we are renown for – that I am most proud of. When we have clients come in for engagement rings, we make them rings with stones that have been cut to the highest quality by US. That is something other jewelers can’t do. I also get great satisfaction from the diamond cutting process. We take something that may be dull, or lackluster and create something brilliant and beautiful. I got where I am today by training for many years under my father. It takes many years to be a master at all the details required to produce jewelry at a level. It very much a ‘wax-on wax-off’ process. repetition, refining, it takes a lot of patience, so I wouldn’t say it was an ‘easy’ process. But it has a taught me lot; patience, being in the moment, attention to detail and also creating a connection with clients. Its so important – the clients, the trust we share. My greatest wish for Minted/Precision is just that we continue to be known for the beauty and value of handmade jewelry and real diamonds. There’s been a push toward manufactured and over processed jewelry, but it doesnt have the soul and longevity of what we do. I feel that consumers are smart and starting to be aware of this on many levels.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love L.A. I love showing people around and all the hidden gems! I’m a big foodie, so it would definitely be a food tour! As its cold at the moment, Silverlake Ramen would be a first stop of some cozy noodles, they are by far the best Ramen in L.A. Next stop Little Izakaya in Sherman Oaks. Im a loyal customer and they know me by name at this point! Sitting at the sushi bar and ordering directly from the sushi chef and having him place the sushi directly in front of you, I love sharing this experience. To walk off the food, a stroll down ventura blvd and a stop at Salt and straw 🙂 LACMA and Getty Museum are truly amazing arts spots and a really nice afternoon activity. For something fancy, dinner at Nobu Malibu is a truly LA and great experience. The food is incredible and there’s always a great celebrity citing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The major shoutout undoubtedly goes to my father Albert . He has been in the diamond industry for over 45 years, and is my mentor, trainer and partner in the business. He has been grooming me to be a master diamond cutter since I was 17 years old.
