We had the good fortune of connecting with Mu Real and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mu, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I rap my reality that’s why I’m Mu real My EP is titled Perception is Reality.. why? because that’s the truth we live in today. Everyday we create false reality’s, excuses, and imaginative scenarios that we trick ourselves into believing. Our perception becomes our reality. We use drugs, sex, violence, and different things to shape our realities but only for the time being. Sometimes altering your perception of things can be good. On my tape I discuss how.I attempts to manifest greatness and get out of the struggle by being different, building a dream team label, pursuing his dream of moving out the hood, helping his peers get their act together, living life and learning valuable lessons, and realizing that you can’t help everyone see the vision especially if their vision is based off a false reality.
Perception is merely a lens or mindset from which we view people, events, and things.” In other words, we believe what we perceive to be accurate, and we create our own realities based on those perceptions. And although our perceptions feel very real, that doesn’t mean it’s actually real. However, because this is true you have to be committed to every dating being real, standing on your morals, living by a code and representing what you believe in. Its no longer enough to know you real you have to show it. Not prove it because theirs nothing to prove just show it by being who ever you are in your skin and living by a code.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up near Newark NJ in Irvington, I spent my younger years rapping and writing music. Music was my get away from all my inner family stress, violence in the city, and financial problems. I excelled in many sports being a 3rd degree black belt, boxing champion, and all state basketball player until I suffered a severe knee injury in my first year of college. Ending my playing career after three surgeries, I continued to pursue my passion for music. That meant crutching to the studio in New York in the snow and rain by way of the train. I write a song every day and record music every week.
Growing up the youngest and the only boy in a house with 5 sisters and my niece was interesting. I always felt like the chosen one. I grew up in a split home where I spent some years living with my pops and some with my moms. It was hard growing up seeing my father battle kidney disease till this day 22 years and having to deal with a lack of food sometimes, not having fly clothes to wear, for closure notices every week. In my city, I witnessed the smartest of kids turn to gangs, I watched my peers go to jail, and some are dead by way of the gun or some other tragedy. Through it all, I kept focused. I continued to stay in my lane and pursue a degree where I earned a full ride to school off of a scholarship. I’m currently a senior in college looking to graduate with a marketing degree. Through my brand I want people to know it is okay to be human make mistakes, take losses, and build from it. Being in reality and being real is a constant lifestyle of taking accountability and understanding that things aren’t always going to be how we would wish or others would wish them to be.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In my city I would take people out to NYC to enjoy the bright lights and skyscrapers. There are a lot of places to go to 230 fifth roof top, south street seaport, soho, or timesquare. Even in New Jersey you could go to the American Dream mall and a bunch of food spots that’s top 5.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
iI want to shoutout my Pops who is a 22 year long kidney disease survivor. He taught me the phrase Perception is Reality back when I was in highschool and I didn’t understand it but years later I finally got it.
