We had the good fortune of connecting with Mxxa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mxxa, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in the Coachella Valley. Growing up, there wasn’t much to do for younger kids and teens so I found a passion in music with all the time I had on me. My parents had a big influence on me and my style. My dad was into a lot of rock, specially classic rock and alternative music and I fell in love with that genre. My mom liked more of the poppy mainstream stuff which I also found really inspiring. Throughout my childhood I started going YouTube and finding different artists to listen to and I found Melanie Martinez. After I found her I was introduced to the Alternative Pop community and I knew this music was going to have to biggest impact on me ever. Also, my best friend Anthony has had a really big impact on me because without him I would have never had the courage to follow my dream and become my own artist and release my art for the world to hear.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Alternative Pop Artist. I got my start in music when I was 3 years old. I always wanted to have the microphone in my hand and as I got older it led to school talent shows to different music camps and now I’m here writing and creating art to share with the world. 16 years old I started writing more serious songs and with the help of my dear friend Anthony, I started releasing music. I started on SoundCloud with a cover by the neighborhood and then in late 2020 I released my first single “Pink Ukulele .” It was hard at first because my knowledge on production at the time was minimal but Anthony taught me a lot and it really helped me. I’m a very shy person and very private so sharing my music is something very big to me because it’s bits and parts of my life and I’m talking about a lot of personal experiences. I just want to my music to mean something to people. I want it to be something people can relate to and be an outlet.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are a lot of places I love here in my valley but I would definitely take them to the hiking trails in the LQ cove. The view of the valley is so pretty and the nature is definitely a wonderful sight to see. Also got to make a stop at 760 tacos. The birria there is super good. Lastly, we gotta stop at Fantasy Springs Casino and check out the rockyard. They always have really fun cover bands that pay tribute to a lot of legends in the music industry. It’s so much fun and the drinks and cocktails there are super good too!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout out to my best friend and co producer Anthony. Without him, I would have never had the courage to make my music come to life. I also want to give a shout out to my Grandma Teresa. She’s always is supporting my dream of being a singer and is always there to support me when I release music or have a show. Also a shout out to my mom and dad for always being there when the times are rough and supporting my music.
