We had the good fortune of connecting with Myriam Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myriam, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since I was little I always wanted to be an actress, but my parents never supported me, therefore, I ended up being a teacher. I moved to Canada and when I tried to continue with teaching I did not succeed. I was thinking of going back to Mexico, because I was feeling depressed, like something was missing, and my husband was the one who told me to do what I always wanted to do, which is acting, since I started I have not stopped one single day, and every day I am either on set or in class it’s a moment that I never want it to end. It gives me life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Mexican actor residing in Montreal. Starting to follow your dreams in a country that is not yours with different language and different culture is not easy at all, I’m not going to lie that at the beginning I felt so lost,(still sometimes) I had not idea how this industry worked, I did not know what school I should go etc… I just wrote on google: “Acting schools in Montreal” and that’s how my journey started 2 years ago. Since then I have not stop attending classes and doing as much I can, I am constantly auditioning, working on short films, doing background work, trying to be on set as much as I can and learning as much as possible.

It has not been easy at all, as I mentioned before, I am from Mexico so my accent sometimes is a huge challenge, but that has not stopped me, I started taking classes that teach the Standard American Accent, so I can actually have more opportunities in the industry.

Sometimes I doubt myself, and ask myself if I should continue with this passion; there is a lot of rejection in this industry and it’s hard to believe in yourself but there is always something that makes me keep going. Last month I felt extremely lucky because I got to work with the amazing director Philippe Falardeau, when my agent called me and told me that I booked the role I could not believe it, it is definitely my biggest accomplish in my career so far, and for once I felt that if I continue working hard I can actually make it.

Please, if you are reading this, FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, it is never too late, you are never too old, it is not something crazy to do, we only have one life and trust me, doing what you love just gives you life. And one more thing, never let anyone to tell you that you can’t do something, if you work hard for something eventually you will get there, this is a marathon, not a race.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Ivan Farias, he is the one that has been supporting my career no matter what. Without his support and encouragement I would not be able to pursue my dream.
