We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadia McQueen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nadia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was really a impulse thought. I’ve always a person who didn’t like structure or order I’m a free spirit who lives to create. I was sitting at the hospital with someone very close to me. She was a victim of domestic violence. We both had dreams of opening a store. After seeing her fight for her life I made the decision right there I’m gonna make a change I’m gonna lead the way. I had no business plan I just knew for sure I was going to but everything I had behind our dream to make it reality in that very moment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Man it’s been a journey and yet I’m still walking in my purpose. I came from a place where you hear about more youth deaths than success stories. Apart of my business mission is to inspire and be a living example of hard work and determination. Nothing worth having is going to come easy. That’s just the way of life for most people. I started at the very bottom but I always always had a love for fashion. I didn’t know where I would end up but I knew in my heart I would always create. I started designing and sewing clothes, then I moved on to modeling my own clothes on the runway. After that i picked up a camera to shoot my own things because no one could bring my ideas together like myself and I really couldn’t afford to pay anyone to do the things I needed done. I started off all over the place but little did I know learning all of those things and doing them myself was only preparing me for bigger. It was Preparing me for the now. Gianni Versace once said people were once born Royal now and days Royalty comes from what you do. So with that said when people see the name Nadia Mcqueenz they know fashion is what I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First we would definitely go down to Crenshaw and slauson to visit nipsey hussle’s plaza. Where the late great Nipsey store Marathon clothing was located the energy in that space is more that inspiring. Then we would head down to the Hollywood area near Club Bahia there is a banging street taco spot there I think it’s called angelos tacos. Best tacos in LA I promise. Then we would have to definitely take a trip to Long Beach to ride jet skis to Catalina island it’s a must have experience u see so many seal lions and seal on the ride out. There are so many things to do a weeks isn’t enough time. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to recognize God first for opening the doors I struggled with and for blessing me with such gifts my family my grandfather Willie Frank McQueen for laying the foundation leaving me with great morals, principles, and values. My mom and her 3 sisters for being my biggest supporters and best friends. My son Ki’ree who has been very understanding and has pushed me to achieve more each day. My best friend Tanesha Smalls for stepping in and being another mother to my son when I’m traveling without him. Last but not least my team Briana Bryant Hope Reid and Aaron Smalls.
