We had the good fortune of connecting with Nakia Rachon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nakia, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make was the choice to travel for work and leave my family. Not knowing when I would I finish a project I was booked to work on was a burden and took a toll on my relationship with my husband, kids, and immediate family/friends.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is intended to make people feel seen, confident, and love who they are.

What sets me apart from others is my approach and care for healthy hair. My first step in maintaining a client is to heal their head of hair using vegan cruelty free products of high quality, and never jeopardize the integrity of a clients hair for a temporary style. Throughout my career I’ve volunteered and have always been available to learn, assist, and grow. I still assist when necessary, and always leave room to grow. I want the world to know that everyday you have an opportunity to work toward everything that you want. No means not yet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being from Sacramento, CA and now residing in Los Angeles, I’ve had the opportunity to see CA in its entirety. I enjoy nature and being by water. Malibu Beach is amazing and low-key. Catalina Island, which is an hour long ferry ride from Long Beach will take your breath away. I enjoy Ruth Chris, Mastros, and Wally’s in Beverly Hills. You can never go wrong with dessert from Magnolia Place. In terms of hanging out, Los Angeles always has something to offer but a lot of the best parties are exclusive to Hollywood’s stars. When I’m feeling up to being in nature I go to Runyon Canyon and feed off of everyone’s positive energy. Be sure to check out Stevie’s in Pico if you love Cajun soul food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My support system includes many mentors, advisors, family and friends, who’ve supported on my journey and encouraged me to never give up. The story of my life includes many no’s and being told I wouldn’t be able to do exactly what I’m doing right now.
