We had the good fortune of connecting with Nami Sugiyama and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nami, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
What makes me happy is being able to truly appreciate what I have, both the simple and meaningful parts of life. But more than that, I find real joy when I can successfully communicate on behalf of animals and serve as a bridge between humans and animals. Helping people understand and connect with animals on a deeper level feels incredibly fulfilling because it aligns with my passion and purpose. It’s not just about speaking for them, but ensuring that their needs, emotions, and lives are seen and respected. That’s what brings me a deep sense of happiness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a certified professional animal communicator, and I communicate with animals telepathically by retraining the brain to adjust its wave frequency to match theirs, allowing for two-way, heart-to-heart conversations. We are all born with this intuitive ability to pick up on energy and senses—it’s just a matter of reconnecting with it. What sets me apart is my over 20 years of experience in the veterinary field, combined with my expertise in various healing modalities. This background gives me a unique perspective on understanding animals holistically. But more importantly, my ability to connect with all beings without judgment truly distinguishes my work.

The path to where I am today felt natural, although I never imagined I’d be doing what I’m doing now. It wasn’t always easy, and there were challenges along the way. I learned that trusting my intuition, staying open, and maintaining a positive outlook were key. One of the hardest parts was embracing the unknown and having faith that everything I needed would come in the right moment. Overcoming these challenges has taught me that being open-minded and trusting the process are essential in finding your true path.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of appreciating everything you have and living in the moment—just like animals do. They don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future, and that mindset is something we can all learn from. I want the world to know that everyone has a unique mission and purpose. When you align with that and remain grateful, life flows in ways you never expected.

Through my communication work, I’ve realized animals have immense wisdom to share with us. They’re constantly offering guidance and insight, and I’m here to act as a bridge for those messages. When the time is right, and if I’m the right person for you, I’m here to help you connect with that wisdom.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d take them to some hidden gems along the coast—those lesser-known beaches where locals and their pups love to unwind. We’d support small businesses by dining at pet-friendly cafes and restaurants with great food and a welcoming atmosphere. For a mix of nature and adventure, we’d explore some beautiful, dog-friendly spots in LA, like Griffith Park or the Malibu hiking trails. We’d also visit outdoor spaces like Runyon Canyon, where dogs can enjoy a hike, or the Huntington Dog Beach for some ocean fun. To really immerse ourselves in nature, we’d take a drive up to the state parks in Southern California, many of which have pet-friendly trails and camping spots. It’d be a week full of discovery and relaxation, all while keeping our furry companions by our side.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to express deep gratitude to the incredible individuals who dedicate themselves to helping animals in need—veterinary professionals, shelter workers, and especially the small, nonprofit rescue organizations striving with all their hearts to make a difference. A special thanks to Cathy Stanley from Camp Cocker Rescue, as well as my dear friends, family, and fellow animal communicators, whose unwavering support has been a constant source of strength throughout my journey. Your compassion and dedication inspire me every day.
