We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancia Music and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was ” I wanted a way to empower women”. I wanted something that had meaning to it. My heart holds dear to helping other women. Growing up in a single home my mom was able to get through because women helped her along the way without any strings attached. They knew the struggle and challenges of being a single mom. It was strong women who made a difference. Strong women who empowered her, strong women who could relate & connected because they themselves understood without question. Therefore I created a business that would make other women strong! And Queen merch was the result of this.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets my business apart from others is our purpose. We want to make sure our products make women feel empowered. All items, designs, and more are carefully selected based on our message. All products MUST make women feel empowered. We create a community of women who look to support each other and that’s what we are proud of most! Because of this, we have grown our market exponentially. The greatest lessons we learned are 1) Everything starts with you, 2) Always have a plan, 3) Plan ahead, 4) Never Quit!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite spots in the city include the beach in South Boston, movies, local restaurants in the hood like Roxbury and Dorchester, creative events/festivals at Dorchester Arts Project and Bamsfests! My most favorite thing to do is going to restaurants and discovering amazing foods!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my MOM!! She’s the MVP Queen! I am who I am today because of her. She has given me the tools to be the best person I can be. She is the source of my spiritual and mental strength! My moral compass is built on her strong religious beliefs of Christianity, thus my personality, mentality, and personality are a resemblance of hers. I know what’s important in life and have purpose because of her. I would also like to S/O Remi!! Her growth and success have been incredible to see and she is inspiring Queens everywhere with her positive attitude and drive. Id like to S/O my besti! Id also like to S/O Jay Hunt of smokehouse media for being instrumental in showing and teaching me so much about Business! His hard work and dedication is also an inspiration.
