Meet Nancy Easton | Badass Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Easton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“It’s only crazy until you do it.” All big ideas sound a little crazy at first, but that’s the fun of it! There’s no dream unattainable. Know your goal, know one step in the right direction and the rest will fill in as you pursue. Get started and figure it out along the way. Ready, fire, aim. And while you’re at it, make sure your dream scares you a little bit. That fear is an invitation. Create a goal that makes you uncomfortable, the thing that your mind says you absolutely cannot do, and go do it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets my art apart from others is my ability to create a final image better than what we’re seeing in person. By setting up dramatic lighting and giving my couples specific actionable cues I can make every image feel more luxurious, intriguing, dramatic, exciting, intimate or emotional, all by how I create the light, the moment and envision the end result.
In addition, I strive to create real bonds with all of my couples. With my clients we feel like close friends long before their wedding day. I listen to their ideas, how they want their wedding day documented and the feel they’re wanting from final gallery. The end result is everything they wanted and more because I watch for the real moments that are happening as well as create the fine art images using every tool available to me. Having their trust is the most important part of our relationship, and I’m grateful for every couple that has trusted me with a day in their lives this important.
The biggest challenge I’ve faced in my business has been myself. I love to move and experience different places. I’ve lived in Kansas City, Las Vegas, Nassau, Bahamas and now SoCal. It feels like starting over every time I take my business to a new place.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places in SoCal is Lorimar Winery in Temecula! They have live music daily. It’s surrounded by orange groves and vineyards and their wine selection is top notch! After that pop down the street to Bottaia Winery and check out their charcuterie and wine pairing! Wine tasting is my thing, Temecula is the place! Cheers!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Several years back, about mid-way through my career I was struggling with feeling worthy of such a dream job. Comparison and imposter syndrome had me questioning if this was the right path for me. Through some self exploration I realized confidence was an issue for me in this area of my life. I read “The Art of Extraordinary Confidence” by Dr. Aziz Gazipura and it was a turning point in how I saw myself in the context of my career field. “Ready, fire, aim” came from his book and I’ve carried it with me anytime I’m feeling hesitant to make bold moves I’m not 100% prepared for.
Also- I have to recognize my husband. We started our wedding photography business together 10 years ago (he’s since retired) and he inspired me to create using off camera lighting techniques early on. That bold, dramatic style is now a staple of my brand.
