We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Pothidang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It all started coming together when I was still employed. I would bake cookies for my colleagues to enjoy and the feedback I would receive would be to start selling them.

When I was let go from my job, I started to seriously think about selling the cookies as a new source of income. When the pandemic hit, I saw all over social media people were starting their own businesses. That’s when I was motivated to start my own.

Fast forward to this day, we are close to hitting our 1 year anniversary. I have over 10 flavors. One of my specialties is ube macapuno which is a type of purple yam and coconut on top. During our spring menu I have Calamansi with Calamansi glaze which is in the citrus family native to Southeast Asia. I also have pumpkin snickerdoodle and double chocolate chip peppermint for our fall/winter menu.

So here I am with my own business. I hope that one day my kids will take over Luna Bake Shop Co.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m excited about the challenges of learning and running a business. I’m proud to see the progress we’ve made within a year.

How I got here today would have to be because of my kids. As a mother I want what’s best for them. Was it easy? Not at all. We all gotta work hard for what we want. I went through many trial and errors during the process. I’ve learned to be patient and trust the process because I knew this wasn’t going to happen over night.

I want the world to know who Luna Bake Shop is. Once you get a taste of our cookies you’ll be coming back for more.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We definitely have hit up local pop ups. I love supporting small businesses. My favorite mom and pop sushi spot for lunch. Disneyland of course and the beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to my husband Marlon, my 2 kids Mace and Malia and our friends and family. A special shoutout to the Tawil family for the continuous love and support.
