Meet Nariman Jumayev | Expert in gas production

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nariman Jumayev and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nariman, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my career has taught me is the value of adaptability and continuous learning. Over the past decade, working in gas production operations, I’ve encountered numerous challenges—equipment failures, unexpected system downtimes, and extreme working conditions. Each situation demanded quick thinking, innovative solutions, and collaboration.
I learned that staying stagnant in any industry, especially one as dynamic as energy, is not an option. Whether it’s mastering new technologies like SCADA systems, improving team leadership, or enhancing my language skills to collaborate internationally, every step of growth keeps me prepared for new opportunities. Adaptability combined with a commitment to safety and excellence has been the key to my success, and it’s a lesson I’ll carry forward as I look to contribute to the global energy sector.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my experience. I would say that my career path has been a blend of passion, perseverance, and growth. I started my career in the oil and gas industry in 2013 as an operator of one of the leading international companies in my country, where I had the privilege of working with a diverse team. My work was centered around maintaining and operating gas production equipment, ensuring its smooth and efficient functioning. During this time, I contributed to several key projects, such as overseeing the operations of compressor stations, ensuring the quality of natural gas, and conducting regular maintenance. I was proud to be recognized for my contributions, receiving awards like the Best Employee Award in 2021, which reflected my dedication to the job.
As an engineer, I faced numerous challenges, from navigating technical issues to working in a fast-paced and demanding environment. One of the most significant challenges was the need to balance hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities. Overcoming this required continuous learning, effective communication with my team, and taking proactive steps to troubleshoot and resolve issues before they became problems.
The lessons I’ve learned have been invaluable. Firstly, the importance of adaptability—no situation is static, and the ability to adjust to new circumstances is key. Secondly, the value of teamwork; every project, big or small, succeeded because of collaborative effort. Lastly, attention to detail is critical—whether in maintenance procedures or ensuring the integrity of data in reports, accuracy is paramount.
Currently, I’m excited about transitioning into a new chapter in my career, where I’m honing my skills in English and deepening my expertise in engineering. Moving to the U.S. offers me a chance to learn from some of the brightest minds in my field, and I’m eager to contribute my experience to the growth of the industry here.
In terms of what sets me apart, I believe it’s my combination of hands-on technical expertise, leadership experience, and commitment to continuous improvement. I am driven by a passion for problem-solving and ensuring that the work I do has a positive impact. My story reflects resilience, adaptability, and a focus on making a meaningful contribution to every project I am part of.
Ultimately, I want the world to know that I am not just a skilled technician, but a lifelong learner and a committed team player. Whether in my previous roles or future endeavors, I bring dedication, creativity, and a strong work ethic to everything I do.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my parents, Yusup Jumayev and Kurbanay Khatamova, whose unwavering support and hard work have always inspired me. I’m also deeply grateful to my team and mentors at China National Petroleum Corporation International (CNPC). Working alongside skilled engineers and supervisors taught me the value of teamwork, precision, and resilience. Their guidance during major maintenance projects, such as engine replacements and system optimizations, helped me grow both technically and as a leader.
Lastly, I want to recognize the impact of training programs, like the 16-hour “Introduction to Entrepreneurship”, which enhanced my leadership and strategic thinking skills. Success is never a solo effort, and I’m truly thankful to everyone who has been part of my journey.
