We had the good fortune of connecting with Natali Starikova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natali, how do you think about risk?

The most significant risk I’ve ever taken was moving to the United States from Ukraine after Russian full-scale war erupted in 2022. This decision profoundly altered my life. In Ukraine, I had established a flourishing artistic career, running my own art school and even working towards opening a franchise. However, relocating to a foreign country meant starting anew and leaving all my previous accomplishments behind, which was daunting and filled with uncertainty.

Yet, this risk proved to be a turning point for my growth and development. It taught me that facing fears and pushing personal boundaries can open doors to new opportunities and lead to considerable personal and professional advancement. This journey has enriched my self-awareness and clarified my goals, illustrating that taking risks can pave the way to new horizons and help achieve greater heights.

The creation of my brand, ArtDom, wasn’t a spontaneous decision. It was the result of years of introspection and a gradual crystallization of my desires. On the surface, it might appear as if everything fell into place by chance, but a deeper look reveals a consistent thread of creativity and unmistakable signs that this was my true calling.

From a young age, I was drawn to creating unique pieces, expressing my style through special clothing designs and intriguing looks. My sketchbooks overflowed with drawings and ideas. This creativity was balanced by a strong business influence from my mother, a businesswoman, whose entrepreneurial spirit and lessons in business fundamentals significantly shaped me.

As an adult, amidst the routine of working in security, I rediscovered drawing as a form of relaxation. This led me to art schools, workshops, and creative events, gradually transforming my apartment into a mini-gallery. One day, I asked myself, “Why not turn this hobby into a business?” This question sparked the birth of ArtDom.

ArtDom started as an art school, blending my business acumen with my passion for creativity. My goal was to highlight that everyone has innate talent and can develop creativity and a unique approach.

Moving to the U.S. marked a significant shift in my life. Leaving behind a successful career in Ukraine, I started from scratch in a new country. The vibrant art scene in Los Angeles inspired me to add my flair and bring luxury to homes through my paintings. Despite the challenges of adapting to a new environment and overcoming the language barrier, I immersed myself in the local art community, visiting galleries, museums, and exhibitions, which eventually led to the creation of ArtDom Interior.

Now, my mission is to create paintings that beautify homes, making them places of comfort and positive energy. I strive to ensure that my art brings joy and inspiration, transforming every home into a haven of beauty.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Moving to Los Angeles has been a true revelation for me. The city amazed me with its diverse events and endless opportunities for growth in the arts. Los Angeles is a treasure trove of exhibitions, galleries, and talented artists, making it an ideal place for creative development. I’m thrilled to immerse myself in this dynamic art world, where there are so many opportunities for self-expression and idea exchange.

One of my favorite spots here is Redondo Beach. This place inspired me to create my first painting in Los Angeles, aptly named “Redondo.” I remember the first time my husband and I visited the beach and saw the ocean. It was a moment that left a deep impression on my heart, and I wanted to capture that day on canvas.

As a newcomer to this city, I am confident that many more beautiful places and inspiring events await me. Los Angeles continues to inspire me, and I believe this city will play a significant role in my life and career, helping me explore new horizons and bring even more beauty to the world through my art.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

Moving from Ukraine to Los Angeles was an unexpected and arduous trial for my family and me, one we overcame together. We left everything behind to start anew. During this challenging period, our mutual support became our foundation. My husband faced difficulties with changes at work and the heavy responsibility of caring for us all, while I grappled with adapting and coming to terms with leaving my career behind in Ukraine. Our 14-year-old son showed remarkable resilience and courage despite his young age. It was through our unity and mutual support that we were able to overcome and continue facing all challenges.

I have started and paused my career here several times, but certain coincidences have proven to be more than mere chance. I met Maria, and our friendship, which began as a simple acquaintance between two immigrants, soon blossomed into a collaborative working relationship. As it turned out, Maria, also from Ukraine, had experience in art management back home. Her belief in me and our joint efforts became a significant part of my new path in Los Angeles. Thanks to her, I regained confidence in my abilities and found inspiration to continue my creative journey. With the support of my family and friends, we are confident that we can achieve much and overcome any obstacles.
