We had the good fortune of connecting with Dashay Jocelyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dashay, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Creating and producing a web series is such a roller coaster ride of emotions, financial stress, and failing forward. There was a lot more coordination and leadership involved than I thought. When my friend and I came up with this idea we believed it would be a few people just goofing around and making a show. It became much more than that. I had a conversation with a cousin of mine where he mentioned he’d bought a new camera and now he and his friend could shoot my web series easy peasy. While I greatly appreciated the offer, it was in that moment that I realized most people (including past me) have no clue the amount of man power and planning it takes to accomplish what was done. Scheduling catering, call sheets, location scouting, equipment rental, transportation, managing the team (in my case 12-16 people), reshoots, rehearsals, payments, editor meetings, the list goes on. I was shocked when I started the process. Although it’s a bit overwhelming at times, I love its so much. I’m grateful to be working with a team that is so awesome and patient. Team, I’m obsessed with you guys. Love you all! We worked so hard and are super excited to share Season 1 of our show “Unstable” with the world. Coming to YouTube September 30, 2021.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Sometimes life can be a bit chaotic. I breathe and take it day by day, understanding that all I can do is control my reactions. If my journey wasn’t so unique, I wouldn’t have anything to write about. I enjoy the fact that “Unstable” is based on my life and I get to be so connected to the story. I have several Seasons of content to construct (lol). Recreating scenes that really happened is insane. Understanding where I was physically and mentally and seeing how far I’ve come on my path is such a cool experience. I find it to be a healthy way of reflection. There’s joy in knowing maybe what I went through is relatable to someone else and they can find peace knowing they aren’t alone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So funny because my cousin was just visiting and she’d never been here to LA so I recently pondered this. I like to go for hikes at Runyon Canyon (not the tourist-y side but the side by the dog park, iykyk). I’m obsessed with the restaurant “Te’kila” on Hollywood blvd, best post hike eating spot. Echo park is super cute for a picnic or just sitting on a blanket and vibing. Lastly, loveeee Dockweiler Beach. You can watch the sunset, do a bonfire, and make s’mores! One of my favorite things to do in Los Angeles.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I’d like to give props to my college fam. I went to small performing arts school on Long Island and now a bunch of us live here on the west. They all hopped in, no hesitation, and did a fantastic job. Thank you guys so much! Second, I’d like to appreciate my Director, Eduardo Frias. This idea would have never come to fruition without him, super grateful. ShoutOut to Team Unstable! It’s full of rockstars, each and every one of them. Abstract Digital Cinema and Abbey Abeynayake for everything, mainly the editing genius. Thank you for putting the bow on this little baby. “Unstable” has recently partnered with Fulton Street Music Group who also happens be run by folks from my college. They’re taking on the music/sound aspect and we’re stoked to have them on this project as well. Lastly to my biggest fan and amazing mother Nancy, wouldn’t be anything with out you. Love you mom <3.
