We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Del Carmen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I grew up in a really supportive household surrounding music and art. I think that’s why pursuing music for this long has felt like something I could do, and I’ve really had family in my corner over the years. Songwriting and releasing music is surely the foundation for all of this, but I find myself drawn to creative people in general. I took that as a sign pretty early on. I’m often sporadic in terms of finding new creative interests on a whim, but music has been a constant, dependable outlet in my life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I grew up here in the LA valley and always felt like music was in reach. I’ve been told a few times over that I write “conversationally” and I’ve grown to really take that as a compliment. It’s been easy to do that kind of writing when its about love, loss and heartbreak, but this year I’ve been touching on topics that I’ve had a harder time coming full-circle on: self-identity, acceptance, friends, life, technology. The newest single “Good Morning From Magnolia” touches pretty hard on those topics, and writing more about life has made me inspired again after lots and lots of tunes about betrayal or heartache in my first album/EP.

I’m surely learning new lessons about pursuing music every day, but I think 2024 has really been about going at this with more confidence and stride. I’ve found a lot more purpose in music than I have in past years, and I’m starting to see better where to put my feet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I’ve got friends down here in LA, I always think spending a day in West LA or hiking near PCH is a go-to. As far is food goes, I really think LA has that down. Loqui is a taco place in Culver City worth checking out, and any Santouka in LA has the best ramen. My dad brought my brother and I to Sawtelle as a kid and I’m always keen to spend a night down in that area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everything I have, hold and am made up of goes back to my parents. I’m grateful to have two strong pillars in my life who see me and encourage all my endeavors.
