We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Denise Sperl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie Denise Sperl, how do you think about risk?
No risk, no reward. I live by the motto “Leap, there will be a net!” but if there isn’t a net I know I can fly. Risks always pay off for me, even if I fail. Failure can be a gift, it can steer you in a better direction. I never want to feel “what if..”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
New York City or Los Angeles? That was the question I asked myself at 13. I knew I had to leave my small Minnesota town to achieve what I wanted to accomplish but before I took that long plane ride I dove into the local market. I started modeling in Minneapolis after I was discovered by a photographer coming out of a store at the mall. From there I racked up local gigs modeling for Daytons, Target and doing trunk shows for Badgley Mischka. While vacationing in California I booked my first starring role in a music video for Australian musician Troy Newman and country artist Mindy McCreedy. On a whim I decided to try Europe and was off to London making the rounds all over town with go sees and quickly booked several magazine shoots (The Face, Esquire, Miss Selfridge, More) among others. Runway was my forte having spent endless hours perfecting my “walk” I walked for top designers in Paris and Milan and Central St. Martins in London. I longed to be an actress and finally took that long plane ride landing in Hollywood where, to date, I’ve racked up over 57 acting credits, directed 12 music videos, 1 award winning short film, and my own YouTube series, The Sperliegirl Show. I’ve worked with some of the top directors in the business (David Fincher, Wim Wenders, Frank Coraci, Michael Bay, The Farrelly Brothers, Joe Cornet) among many more. I’m impatiently waiting to work with Quentin Tarantino so I wrote a song to get his attention “Put Me in Your Movie Quentin Tarantino” which is how I started a rock and roll band , Kill My Coquette. I write my own songs and taught myself rhythm guitar. Kill My Coquette has played all over SoCal and opened up for many bands including Bad Religion. We recently released a few protest songs, which leads me into my activism “We Won’t Go Back (Boots Off Our Backs) “ and “The Wrong Crowd” both out now. Loud and proud feminist, I use my art to make a point and hopefully a difference.
P.S.- Quentin, put me in your movie already;)

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re in LA check out local spots like The Redwood Bar downtown or The Maui Sugar Mill in the Valley for some great music. Grab a bite at the Rainbow or my fav Ethiopian joint, Meals by Genet. You’re welcome!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
