We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Minguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I was a kid, I have always loved to play and experiment with the creative tools have around me. The pursuit of exploring new ideas in my freelance work is what makes my job exciting. Whether its photography, illustration, or graphic design, each project is a new and motivating challenge. Freelance has also led me to work with so many great collaborators and artists who inspire me to keep practicing my craft. As I continue my creative journey as a freelance artist, I am always eager to see where the next project will take me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art has always been a huge part of my life ever since I can remember. Additionally, I have always been eager to create with different art mediums such as painting, illustration, photography, videography, animation, and sculpture.

I began to make art more of a “job” my senior year of high school by asking my musician friends if they needed posters or photography for their next concerts. Luckily, they did. After taking photos at their shows, I began to meet people who needed a photographer and/or a graphic designer. Another part of getting small jobs when I was starting out was through Instagram. Instagram was and is a great tool for me to showcase my work and what I can do. Starting my freelance journey was somewhat slow, but as I kept creating and developing my style, it helped generate more opportunities for myself to meet and work with new people along the way. Today I mostly continue to work with musicians doing photography, graphic design, illustration, and animation.

I still have a lot of learning to do as I continue on my career path, but so far I have learned to put more trust in my ideas and to always keep creating even if the work becomes mundane or lifeless; there is always something new to be discovered.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My ideal day in Los Angeles would be to grab a coffee at Stories Books & Café in Echo Park, then spend a few hours walking around the Long Beach Antique Market. Then I would go to Crossroads Kitchen for a yummy vegan lunch. I would probably grab another coffee, maybe at Blue Bottle or Intelligentsia. To catch the sunset, I would go to Griffith Park or drive up PCH to Malibu. For dinner, I would get pasta and whipped eggplant at Elephante in Santa Monica. To end the night, I would grab an ice cream at Jeni’s and see a concert at The Fonda.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my dear friends and wonderful artists/ creatives: Autumn Higgins, Chloe Gallardo, Nicholas Pigeon, Alix Page, and Cole Silberman.

I would also like to thank my biggest supporter and my biggest creative inspiration, my mom, Sandie Minguez.
