We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Wong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to start my own business because I really enjoy baking, and I wanted to share it with the community. It is definitely a lot of work, but it’s so rewarding since my customers are happy to come here, and we also get to take part in special celebrations like birthdays, weddings, and graduations. We specialize in character macarons, Asian inspired desserts, and boba drinks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would like the readers to know that we use natural ingredients and we try to make everything of the best quality, like using ceremonial grade matcha powder in our desserts and drinks. I poured my heart and soul into all our baked goods, and taught my employees to do the same. Every time you eat our desserts or drink our drinks, it is made with love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting me at my shop, I would take them to 88 Bao Bao for amazing dumplings, shopping for clothes at Olive & Finn and Unincorporated, the Castro Valley Marketplace for some local organic products, and then take them to Lake Chabot for a picnic/hike after. Castro Valley’s food scene is growing, and more trendy places are coming in.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out to my team for doing such a great job running the shop, making all the desserts, washing all the dishes, cleaning up, and taking care of our customers. I would also like to thank Chrystal Nguyen and David Quach for helping me film my Kickstarter video 3 years ago so that my shop would become a reality. I would also like to shout out all of my customers/supporters who have been there since I was still baking at home and was called “Macarons by Natalie”. I really appreciate all of you!
