We had the good fortune of connecting with Nate Shavin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nate, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The question whether I actually chose to pursue a creative career is debatable. Having been exposed to music from a young age, I’m in a sense programmed to prefer a creative process over other things. My highest, most divine experience as a human being was achieved through art and love. Nothing else I know of makes me feel more alive.
Alongside the more personal aspect, I want to inspire people. pursuing a creative career is the best way for me to achieve that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I suppose sets me apart from others is my upbringing. I grew up in a multicultural environment, speaking different languages. My artistic journey started at the age of 4, playing classical piano, and in high school, I became interested in jazz and composition. Upon meeting my friend Or Koskas, I unexpectedly developed a passion for pop songwriting and production, which is what I do to this day.
My music is inspired by a variety of influences. It’s pop at its core, combining elements from classical music, jazz, EDM, R&B, Funk, and Broadway. The lyrics and vocal performances tend to be dramatic with a wide singing range – technically and emotionally.
I got to where I am today as a result of two main factors. First, by constantly focusing on getting better, and second, by being fun and easy to work with. When you deliver and make people leave happier than when they arrived, opportunities find you.
As far as challenges go, what helped me overcome them was a deep belief in my work. It allowed me to see the bigger picture every time life got tough. In other words, having a belief in myself that is bigger than my problems helped diminish their significance.
One of the bigger lessons I’ve learned along the way is ‘focus’. In the past, I often felt lost working in various music industry jobs. Later on, I came to realize it was a crucial step in developing the focus I have today as I slowly understood what I DIDN’T want to do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first of all contact a few friends and look into throwing a house party for us all to enjoy. These types of parties are great since they allow for people to connect and share their passion. We would also check out some cool restaurants and go for a hike in the nature surrounding LA.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The biggest shoutout goes to my parents. What they’ve done for me is beyond measure. No words can describe the amount of gratitude I have for them.
I must also express my deep appreciation to the people who help me believe in myself. Their friendship and support have been absolutely invaluable. Anthony Jimenez, Chris Rost, Or Koskas, Shalev Alon, Alessandro Calemme, and Adam Mitchell, thank you.
