Meet Nayana Reaves | Documentary Filmmaker & Health Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nayana Reaves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nayana, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision I’ve ever made was doing whatever I wanted to do exploring any option that speakers curiosity. The one thing about being an artist is that inspiration is actually always around you if you pick up and are able to translate it into your niche. With that being said, I’ve never been afraid of always expanding my knowledge in wide variety of areas that could help me spark creativity/passion in new ways.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is all about influencing originality and ingenuity through my work as a filmmaker. I think that authentic stories resonate stronger and it’s why I took an immediate liking to documentary in particular. I think when most people think of documentary , they think boring talking heads but truthfully documentary is just the documentation of an individual’s life. That is why I started my multimedia agency Colors Production. I’ve made it my brand’s focus to exposes how extraordinary even the most ordinary story can be. After all art does imitate life.
I don’t look at life very linearly anymore when it comes to the perfect time for this or that to happen. All the obstacles and challenges I’ve faced have made my brand/story that much more powerful. I’ve taken all of my struggles and translated it into my business. My path has not be easy but every obstacle I’ve been given thus far that I thought was a road block really was just a detour. I’ve made new revaluations about my brand that I’m excited to show.
My challenges and obstacles have lead me to more opportunities for myself including branching off into my fitness business. Health has became a very big value to my life and now that it is a great part of it, it has helped me have the mental capacity and energy to push my digital + social platform forward as well.
I have new ideas and new projects in the works that I’ve learned to be patient for their arrival while I continue my own true human experience and absorb more Inspo.
If I want to let the world or my audience know anything is that the uniqueness of your story is always what is going to set you apart from other business/artists. There are so many of us but we are all so unique due to all are very different circumstances. Everything happens for a reason so try and be open and receptive to whatever life throws you, it maybe just what you needed in hidden form to take you to the next level.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I live in Los Angeles and believe it or not I really don’t get out too much anymore. Some of my favorite spots though are Venice beach, abeautifullife- Jamaican Kitchen, Mama Shelter’s and Dave & Busters! I will say the great thing about LA is just the overall experience and unique people you come into contact with on a daily. You might meet the most interesting individual causally walking down the street. And there’s also so many great events that get thrown from private vendors. My most recent favorite independent event was the “Ebony Beach Club” held a couple weeks ago at dockweiler beach!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my grandmother. Through my growth throughout the years she has always supported me and pushed me to be independent/well-rounded. She is no longer here with us today but her spirit and support lives through myself and my work.
