We had the good fortune of connecting with Neisha Wallace and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Neisha, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authenticity and an open mind to learn. Connecting with people be they customers, brands, or mentors and learning and sharing product stories.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are a husband and wife team living in the Southern California mountains.

Gary has been in the vintage clothing industry for over 20 years. Neisha has always worked in creative fields, from skin care as an aesthetician to fashion design in the Los Angeles women’s contemporary market . In 2011 we started our own company, Foundation Vintage, selling heritage and bohemian vintage & designing a line of hand dyed, natural indigo clothing. In 2020, after a deep dive into our life and a perspective change, we moved to Lake Arrowhead to put down roots and opened ‘evergreen’. Our store is a curation of things we love – vintage clothing, exceptional apothecary & handmade, small batch, ethically sourced, sustainable goods.

Along the way we’ve learned how to wear many hats, benefited from watching the owners and teams of businesses we worked for and how important transparency is. We’ve also hit bottom, had to take on side hustle jobs to pay the bills and be humble. We make mistakes, it’s a constant learning curve but as long as we can leave ego aside and know our contribution is to share our passion and story with the community…we feel successful.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We absolute love our community up here in the mountains and love sharing what to do with our customers and friends! It’s a small town feel even though we’re just a short drive from Los Angeles and it’s magical. Start with a trip to our shop Evergreen and our neighbors next door, Base Camp then walk across the street to Little Bear Bottle Shop for an amazing curated, small batch liquor store experience. Grab a bottle of wine from Nathan then keep walking on our little corner in Sky Forest to pizza at Lou Eddies and soon to be open The Yeti. Take a nature walk at the Arboretum just up the road and you’ve immersed yourself in the forest. Next day have a relaxed afternoon at the Lake Arrowhead Brewing Co. and their top notch beers (the sour is AMAZING) and you’ll probably even meet some new friends. Then lunch at Jetties in the Village (get the poke nachos) to enjoy views of the lake. Check out Cedar Glen (…it’s a short drive along the lake) for shopping at Magpi, The Lake House and Timberline in the Glenn and buy some beautiful fresh flowers at Wildflowers at the Lake. Visit Blue Jay and eat at Spade & Spatula for vegan friendly options and Stone Creek Bistro for a fine dining dinner. Start the next day with coffee and the best pastries at Lulubelles in Running Springs and possibly a drive up to Big Bear for some snowboarding and skiing in the winter. Local favorites for dinner are The Grill at Antlers and Saddleback Inn for a classic mountain experience. Take a trip down to Crestline for more shopping and dining and another beautiful lake, Lake Greggory. Get some records at Mystic Mountain Music, shop antiques and unique finds at Encompass then a short drive to “top town” and our friends at Hearth & Sage for unique boutique shopping and Fort Greggory for outdoor gear and mountain gifts. Don’t leave Crestline without a stop at the Stockade for a cold beer, good food and live music. There’s hiking trails all over so take time to slow down, connect with nature and explore.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many along the way that have supported, mentored and encouraged us! From friends and family’s emotional support (and financial when times got hard). The vintage clothing community of fellow small businesses we have met that are always eager to support. In our shop it’s all about the makers and artists that work so hard to produce thoughtful products and partner with us to create something unique…It’s hard to pick any one thing to dedicate this article to but the main underlying theme has always been connection. Individuals that have made more of an impact on us than they probably know. The awe we feel at how generous people really want to be and that inspires us to pay it forward.
