We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Audy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think one of the most important factors behind my success has been my constant drive. I wake up every day with a goal in mind, and I’m pretty strict with myself to achieve those daily goals which ultimately helps lead to my long term goals . Being self motivated, consistent and having good discipline really keeps me on track !

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I don’t come from a traditional musical path and it’s that path that made me who I am today. I think having flexibility in what you can offer in the music world is super important. Constantly pushing yourself to learn different skills, instruments, ect. should never stop!  I am a drummer, I started hitting things when I was 4 years old and never stopped! I graduated Berklee college of music in 2012 with the mind set that my career would predominantly be drums but it really wasn’t until after college that I dove deep into the composing world, and when I did I fell in love with music all over again. Being open to a shift in your career path can open so many doors.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

There is so many awesome places in Los Angeles, but I have to give my neighborhood bars and restaurants a shout out, I would for sure take them to Mel’s diner on sunset for some breakfast (I know it’s touristy but I love to people watch there)  The Den for a beer or two and Electric Owl for a Taquilla tang and some tater tots as a nightcap. My fiance is from Santa Barbara so we head north a lot for the beaches and wine! We are self proclaimed winery lovers so we also spend a lot of time up in Paso Robles / San Luis Obispo winery hopping, Hammersky being one of our favorites!, along with Tables Creek and LAW Estates.

Musical venues I tend to visit often are the Hollywood Bowl, we have a tradition of seeing John Williams there every Summer, It’s a must if you’re in LA in August. The Viper room is a classic,  and one of my favorites, The Catalina Jazz club in Hollywood. If you want to listen to some great jazz with an old school lounge vibe, definitely check it out, I was lucky enough to see the Buddy Rich tribute band perform there with Buddy’s daughter at the helm a few years back.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I would have to say, without a doubt, that my success can be attributed to my amazing support system. From the beginning, when I was around 4 my parents recognized my gifts in music and never stopped supporting me. Being the parents to a musician, let alone a young drummer, you can imagine was not an easy task. They have cheered me on the whole way and are still doing so.

And also to my fiancé who has been nothing short of amazing when it comes to understanding the long hours and dedication it takes to make it in this industry! We’ve been together 6 years and a lot has happened career wise within that time, its really awesome to have someone by your side who believes in you when going through this roller coaster of a career choice!
