We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicolas Ospina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicolas, what is the most important factor behind your success?
my success would have to come from 2 things; Always being dependable & Always keeping my cool, no matter the situation.
Being dependable I feel is pretty self explanatory. Where the real success starts to come is keeping my cool. Being in the Entertainment Industry, primarily music and hip hop, it is notorious that no two days are the same. things are constantly going on and changing. Always being able to stay calm and collected, and calming those around me, has always set me apart from many others.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
RNGD Entertainment is the beginning of my independent career in business. I specialize in artist management and development. The name RNGD (pronounced Renegade) was inspired by the song “Renegade” by Jay Z ft Eminem (original song was by Eminem and Royce da 5’9). The song chorus talks says “Never Been Afraid To Say What On My Mind, At Any Given Time Or Day Because I Am A Renegade”. That is a place I aspire to get to in life. Those who know me know I am very quiet and non-confrontational. An introvert you could say. But as my career has evolved, I have learned to open up and be more extroverted. The hope and goal behind RNGD Entertainment is to be a platform that helps artists break out from and reach a potential they never knew they had in them. I also do not like to conform to the norm. So eventually, Renegade (RNDG) stood out to me and resonated with what I wanted my company to be.
– I am the current manager for Justin Muzack. He is a music producer, instrumentalist, and DJ. The creator and host for The GR8-L8 Show (pronounced Great -Late show). He is also a host and producer of Syndicate Radio and an overall broadcast journalist. Both shows are on 101.5 KQBH
– I also just signed DJ Prizewell. He is a DJ and music producer and host of the show The Layover also on 101.5 KQBH.
In the works is a sub-business called RNGD Financial. I own and operate my own agency within Transamerica. We utilize innovative investment and savings strategies to help our clients get on track to reach their financial goals! We specialize in tax-free investment options and accounts that are guaranteed not to lose but still average 8-9% growth! This I am very excited about because as a first generation Latino in America, creating and maintaining generational wealth is not something that is taught in school. Its concepts that hit near and dear to my heart. Protecting my family, even when I can no longer be there for them. But why stop with just me? If I can help other become educated in this and help them protect their families, why not do it? It would be selfish of me not to do so. Feel free to message me to schedule a complimentary financial coaching session!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am not much of an Itinerary person. That job goes to my girlfriend who is known to put together some amazing itineraries, anywhere we go.
But If I had to pick a few things to do it would be the following . . .
I live in Los Angeles, if you do not mind the traffic the possibilities are endless. The beach is a must. My personal favorite is the drive up to Santa Barbara. Nice warm sunny day, clear sky, ocean view while you drive. It’s relaxing.
While in Santa Barbara, going to a show at the Santa Barbara Bowl is a must. Its an open-air venue next to the beach. It is a great time and much better than being in a hot closed venue.
Moby Dick Restaurant is also a great place to eat at while in SB. It is right on the pier and if lucky you can enjoy your meal while watching the sunset.
Back in Los Angeles, some obvious favorites are Universal Studios and Disneyland. Kid and adult friendly now, it is always fun to go with friends and or family.
In LA on Sunday nights , for those who are more into the Latin scene and reggaetón music, Cana Rum bar is always a great time. Right in DTLA.
One of my favorite food places to go to is Pine Tree Korean BBQ in Northridge. Something about their food that always hits the spot. Everytime.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost my mother. She raised me as a single mother and without her love and sacrifices I would not be the man I am today.
Secondly, Doane ‘DC’ Cole, who was my first ever real mentor in business and showed me how to be a leader
Next, my girlfriend Ashley Ramirez. If not for her pushing me to go back to school and then connecting me with Adam Hamilton, I would have never gotten into the industry.
Adam Hamilton is a must Shout Out. He took this young inexperienced kid from Pacoima, CA and helped him chase his dreams by plugging him with one of the biggest booking agents Los Angeles and Hip Hop has ever seen.
My AMG Family; Jamie Adler, Erik Able, and the great Mike Chehade. These guys go beyond mentors in business, they have become my family. They gave me chance to prove myself and I did. They have empowered me in many ways and most of my Music Industry success is attributed to them.
My good friend Nick Kandelaki always looking out for me and trying to help out where he can, thank you brother.
Lastly, my Syndicate Radio Family. My brother Justin Muzack who has been there with me since 9 years old and my brother Kent Mulato who gave me my original start in entertainment back in 2011. I do not always show it but I depend on you guys a lot, and I could not endure many of the obstacles I do with out you guys.
