We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Ciccarelli DeLorenzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am and have always been a creative soul. My life has been quite unconventional and I value the journey and carving my own path in life. I have been in multi-faceted avenues of what would be considered work, which have all given me perspective and direction. Yet, ultimately, I am self-taught, creatively directed and have been learning the depths of what life is and who I am, throughout my journey. I don’t really have a choice in choosing a creative path, the path has chosen me. There are so many endeavors and opportunities that I have come across and have leaped into. Including travel, living my dream and now having a family.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey into writing started when I left my home of metro Detroit in 2008 when the economy crash happened. I had been pursuing a healing and meditation journey and felt I wanted more from life. I took off to find myself and write a memoir of my life journey. A journey which until then was healing from experiences in my teenage years which could only be described as traumatic and exploitative. What I didn’t understand when I took off on this journey of self-discovery, was that I would never be the same person. I would uncover all the depths of who I was and heal over the next 15 years.
I lived in Montana, New Mexico on an organic farm. I traveled to San Francisco to have fun. I then went to Hawaii and lived on a sustainable homestead and then a yoga community for a stint.
Making new friends, learning so much, I was given the opportunity to then live in NYC and study Kundalini Yoga under a friend and write my memoir.
It took 3 months and I wrote a 350 page, raw stream of consciousness memoir that quite honestly was crap..
Yet, I came to understand writing was part of my life path. From NYC I started traveling the world, started a blog and wandered through creative pursuits. I lived in Chicago while crafting my blog and was inspired to make my move to California in 2013. I had ideas for several movies and shows and wanted to learn about what that would take to create them. Within a 10 year period I traveled to 27 countries, mind you this was before Instagram and I was an OG travel blogger, not doing it for any other than sharing my travels and journey.
I have been in California for over 10 years and have worked in many facets of television, movies including being a PA, working for the Bachelor franchise, producing short films in New Orleans, nannying for celebrities and high profile families. I also was blessed to work alongside my now husband on some epic movies including Green Book, and other shows and movies, in which I was background and he did camera.
Needless to say, my focus moved onto my children once I had my son in 2019.
Dreams of publishing and writing the pilot for a show went to the back burner, for now.
I pivoted my travel brand to a conscious mama and parenting, outdoor and travel brand. I am relishing the time with my children while they’re young, working as a teacher at a preschool they attend and creating community in the area I live in now.
That’s not to say I won’t be creating the ideas I started out with 15 years ago. If anything, they will now have the raw depth of life and experience that I have garnered since then.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Malibu, Santa Monica, Topanga and Inn of the Seventh Ray for brunch. I would go to Studio City where we lived and walk around Tujunga. Getting dinner at the famous Vitello’s and shopping in the little boutiques and stopping at Aroma Cafe for a coffee.
Fryman Canyon and Tree People hike is a must, and perhaps I’d take my friend on an adventure to see the Rainforest Hike, passing by the old cars on Mulholland Drive trail. I would go to the Santa Clarita area of downtown Newhall on a Saturday and enjoy the Farmer’s Market and shop at the unique stores on Main St. I’d take us to Six Flags Magic Mountain for an adrenaline roller coaster rush and fun time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My little family who I love through eternity and all space and time. To my communities throughout life who have bolstered and emboldened me.
