We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Delgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, how do you think about Risk?

I think Risk is absolutely necessary to living any semblance of a life that’s interesting, engaging, and meaningful. I often ask myself, “what am I missing out on by NOT doing this?”, rather than, “what am I risking by doing it?”. I think anyone who wishes to pursue a creative path needs to have a bit of that dive in head first, ask questions later mentality. At the end of the day, I would rather look back and think, “well that was kinda crazy but man was it fun” or “that didn’t go quite as planned but I learned”, rather than think, “I wish I would have…”.

What role has taking risks played in your life/career?

Tasking risks involves having the courage to follow whatever it is that you’re pulled toward, regardless of the opinions and/or judgements of others, and this has been an idea that has guided me throughout my life. As far back as third grade, when I decided to stand up for myself against the school bully despite multiple warnings not to, to high school when within the course of a week I decided to give up my starting spot on the Varsity Basketball team to pursue my pull towards theatre, to my now lasting decision to pursue a career in Film & TV surrounded by fearful comments of, “…but what if it doesn’t work out?”. You’re the one that has to look in the mirror everyday and be proud of what you see, so why not go for what you truly want? Some may view that as a “risk” or a gamble. I view it as a must, a non-negotiable, an absolute necessity to living my most full, satisfying, and creative life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I’ve been in LA going on 10 years now, and I think I can attribute where I am as an actor to my unrelenting ability to learn, pivot, and simply not take “No” as my final answer. I’m also very fortunate to be blessed with a great support system, which has helped immensely in keeping me grounded and true to what/who I am. Being born and raised in the Bronx, you have to develop a thick skin, and it’s that layer that has helped me navigate the rollercoaster that is this industry.

It’s tough moving to LA because every single person you meet has an opinion on what you “should” be doing, or how you will end up “making it”. The reality is no one has those answers, and it’s different for everyone so you have to be diligent about seeking them out for yourself. That’s one thing that I’d want people to know about me and my work. That I’m on that constant hunt for those answers, and that I don’t plan on giving up any time soon.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Venice, so there would definitely be many beach hangs and bike rides during that week! I also have my own garage gym, so anyone that comes to visit knows that they will be getting a few workouts in @delgadosgaraje. Evenings would include some delicious cocktails and dinner at either Wabi, Scopa, American Beauty or Accomplice. Now that things are finally opening back up, I would also definitely take them to explore different hoods like Los Feliz, WeHo, and Downtown and for sure hit a dope stand up show or art exhibit!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to dedicate my Shoutout to the William Esper Studio (NYC) for the Two Year Conservatory experience that changed my life as an actor. Also, The Village Acting Studio and The BGB Studio for providing me with a loving sense of community, and places that I felt I could call my creative “home” throughout my years in LA. And finally the ladies of The Lovestone Agency for being the authentic, hard working badasses they are!
