We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Steen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a dance and fitness expert, my business Nicole Steen Fitness, is helping people all over the world maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle. Good health is so important especially now during these crazy times we are living in with the COVID-19 pandemic. My workouts have always been a way for people to stay in shape, but ever since the world went into lockdown, my workouts became more than that. At Nicole Steen Fitness, I use my workouts to provide an outlet for people to virtually connect with others and experience joy instead of sadness, happiness instead of depression, and an overall better outlook on life. Everyday I get emails, letters, and direct messages from people telling me how my workouts have made them smile in a time when they thought they would never smile again because they lost a loved one to the virus, or lost their job due to the shutdown. People from Africa, Europe, the U.S and more use my workouts to lift their moods whether they are shaking it out to my cardio Latin dance workouts or burning those glutes with my Buns Of Steen® booty workouts. My online Zoom and Vimeo classes not only help people look good, they also help people feel good by increasing their overall health, sense of well-being, reduce stress, and pump up those endorphins! Health is wealth, and I am so happy I can share my expertise and make a difference with my business Nicole Steen Fitness around the world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am my business Nicole Steen Fitness! Basically I do everything from teaching fitness classes all over Southern California for Equinox, to filming fitness videos for big companies such as FitBit, Fabletics, Beachbody, PopSugar Fitness, and more. I even have my own Tone N Twerk dvd and other workouts on Amazon!
What makes me different than others is that I do it all! Although I am known mostly for my Booty and Dance workouts, I am one of the very few fitness experts who can teach kickboxing and then go straight into a Zumba class, later on that night go perform my fire baton twirling skills at a Tommy Hilfiger fashion show, and wake up the next morning to run a cheerleading camp for the Snoop Dogg Youth Footballs League.
I know I do a lot and some people may say why don’t I focus on one thing, but I am FULL OUT and I love it all!!!
Living a busy life like this has not always been a smooth road for me. But when you want something bad enough, you do whatever it takes to succeed. That is how I was brought up, and that’s how I lived my life. Beauty pageants, dance, and baton twirling competitions were very expensive and I watched my mother sacrifice everything just so I could compete all over the world doing what I loved! Seeing the struggle my parents went through to give me what I wanted, also taught me to hustle for what I wanted at a very young age. At seven years old, I was going door to door to different business to get sponsors for my beauty pageants and competitions. I started teaching private lessons, giving classes at the ymca, selling candy, hand made jewelry and anything to help pay for my activities all while practicing, performing and getting straight A’s. I still maintain this same hustle today because I believe in working hard for what you want. Nothing feels better than putting your all into something and succeeding in the end!
Even with all that I have accomplished, the proudest moment of my career is not dancing for the biggest artists or training the hottest celebrities, but it’s getting the tons of letters, emails, and direct messages from people all over the world saying how much I changed their lives with my workouts. Seeing the smiles on my students faces when I’m teaching my daily Live Zoom workouts is everything to me. I know everyone’s struggle is different whether they are stuck in Europe with a 4th lockdown or here in the states without a job due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Knowing that I can bring joy and happiness to these people who are having a rough time in life is what I am most proud of. This is why I do what I do! God has blessed me with so much and I just want to share it with the world. I want everyone to be fit, experience a healthy lifestyle, and love life! My motto is “Let’s All Win!”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting the area (and we were no longer dealing with Covid-19) I would take my friend to all of the best sites. We would go running along the Santa Monica pier, shopping on Rodeo, 3rd street, Beverly Center, and the Century City Shopping Center. For fun I would take my friend to Hollywood to see the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Another day we would go to the happiest place on earth and a place where I spent many years as a lead dancer in the stage show Electronica…Disneyland. We would definitely hit up my gym Equinox and I would make my friend take all of my classes so she could stay in shape and meet some awesome people. I’d take her to some dance studios in Hollywood so we can dance to our favorite choreographers. We would rejuvenate our bodies with cryotherapy and The infrared sauna at Next Health. Head to a private mansion party and relax by the pool in our bikinis with a martini. Get our hair and nails done in Beverly Hills. When it’s time to eat, we would go to all of my favorite spots which include Catch, Avra, Mr. Chow, Mastros , and Nobu Malibu. And we would definitely find more spots to dance and workout at since that’s my favorite thing to do. Hanging out with me in LA would never be boring. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my parents Bernice and Harold Steen who have always pushed me to stay focused, work hard, and never stop reaching for my goals!
