Meet Nikei S Salas | Spiritual Guide, Wellbeing Educator, Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikei S Salas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikei S, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The most major decision I have ever made was allowing myself to be who I am and to live in a way that has no room for regrets. This makes me think of years ago, a moment shared, when I was working as a nurse. A patient told me something I will never forget. This person, my angel, told me of the dreams she had that left a void in her life. That life lesson, her personal story, has encouraged me through the years to keep at my goals, fulfill my dreams and inspire others to do the same. Which is my definition of success. Living your life in a way that is best for you and promotes positive change in others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My life is my work. Each part of it, whether considered good or bad, has made me. I am proud of my challenges for teaching me. And I can pour these lessons into others I coach or inspire. Telling others of steps throughout my journey helps them continue their path. Whether I am sharing chapters of my life story of being a single teenage mother, growing up with gang members, dealing with emotional abuse, healing myself from different diseases and much more. They ask me often after I tell them of what I went through, “How are you able to still smile? How are you able to have joy in your life from all that?” I answer, “Having joy is a choice. I chose to transform past pain into something more beneficial for my spirit, mind and body.” Because it is difficult to move forward with the heaviness of previous issues. Letting it go, while remembering the lessons, allows us freedom. This is how we welcome joy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Every day we will enjoy a walk in nature at McKinney Falls State Park or Lady Bird Park. Both are equally beautiful. Afterwards we will take in a baked good from Voodoo Doughnuts. They give great customer service and have a wide variety of delicious treats. For lunch we can enjoy authentic tacos from a food truck or barbeque from Terry Black’s. After eating we can go for a walk again in downtown Austin to listen to the sounds of live music. Supporting artistry is important to me and those who are close to me feel the same.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to recognize my husband, Dino Salas, owner of Dino’s Dent Dececption, for being a safe space to help me grow.
