We had the good fortune of connecting with Nin Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nin, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve been into art since I was a kid. Started out doodling romantic manga and passing it around in elementary school. I remember thinking, “Hey, maybe I’ve got something here. Maybe I should stick with this art thing.” My dream kind of shifted from manga artist to wanting to do animation, directing, illustration, concept art—all stuff related to art. Plus, I’m pretty bad at math.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m particularly drawn to slice-of-life themes and capturing the beauty in everyday routines. My art style has went through numerous transformations, and it continues to evolve. However, one constant is my desire to capture a certain vibe, a feeling that resonates with viewers and allows them to imagine the stories within the artwork. While we as people might not went through dramatic plot twists or secret identities, I believe that the simple, ordinary moments that unfold around us hold their own kind of beauty. My aim is to capture the essence of these moments.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d love to start our day by taking you to my favorite spot for Hainan Chicken—Savoy Kitchen. It’s a place I frequent at least once a week, It’s just too good. We could also enjoy a leisurely stroll around Santa Monica, taking in the beach atmosphere. Driving around Mulholland Drive and Hollywood would be fun too!

One of the best things about LA is the clear night sky, especially when you’re up in the mountains. So, I’d definitely want to take you there to see the stars twinkling above us. And of course, no visit to LA would be complete without a stop at LACMA and The Broad. There’s so much incredible art to see—I know you’ll love it!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Art has always been a hobby for me, but it wasn’t until middle school, thanks to my online friends, that I seriously considered turning it into a career. Coming from a family that prioritized academics, I attended a school focused on traditional studies, where I didn’t have many friends who shared my passion for art. However, during that time, I discovered an online platform where I could draw and chat with strangers. It was there that I met people my age who were incredibly talented artists. We soon became friends and we still has a close connection till today! Meeting these talented individuals motivated me to improve my own skills. It was a turning point for me, shifting from treating drawing as a casual hobby to wanting to hone my craft seriously.
