We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina Endrst and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nina, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“You are the sky. Everything else – it’s just the weather.” — Pema Chödrön
When I was starting my business in NYC, I was struggling on a personal level. I used to roam the east village and wonder if things would ever make sense. Of course looking back I can see how and why things unfolded the way they did – but it’s difficult to see ourselves and our pain clearly when we are in it. This quote always brought me so much hope and peace and I believe it encapsulates the human experience beautifully. I share on my website about me page for all of these reasons and hope it helps someone else.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have a wellness practice that I started about 9 years ago in Manhattan,. I’m a Certified Life Coach, Tarot Reader, Certified Pilates, Yoga + Meditation Teacher.
I’ve built my practice with integrity, intention and humility. My services are intended to help clients deepen their relationship with themselves and those around them and also provide them with practical tools to improve their overall well-being.
Before I launched my business I was working in the Fashion industry, Ive always considered myself a creative but felt like I kept hitting every wall possible in my early career. Yes the hours were grueling and the work was intense but beyond that, it really just wasn’t aligned with who I truly was. I was suffering physically with crohn’s disease and the stress was wreaking havoc on my mind, body and soul. Eventually I realized if I wanted my life to change I was going to have to make it happen myself and take some risks. I had no safety net whatsoever but I thought, fuck it – maybe I can actually be happy in this life, its worth a try.
I was leaving a yoga class one evening while on medical leave from my job, it was the only thing that made me feel like me at the time. I just had this moment of clarity – I wanted to teach. So I followed my gut and have never doubted it for a moment since, things started to flow really naturally for the first time in my life because I was actually listening to myself.
A year later I moved to Mexico when I realized the city was no longer serving me, I wanted a family and a different way of life, I just knew I wasn’t supposed to be in the city anymore. While living abroad I lead over 50 global retreats, teaching yoga and reading tarot, coaching people from all walks of life in Morocco, Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, Nicaragua and beyond. I also met my husband while living in Mexico, he moved there from Brooklyn and we found out we used to go to the same bar, a little place on the lower east side, but we’d never met until we both chose a different way of life in a different part of the world.
What sets me apart is that I am me, I have a unique perspective and dont really fit the “wellness” mold. I’ve carved my own path, one Im proud of. I truly feel its an honor and privilege to work with people the way I do. I never take it for granted and always keep my ego in check which is incredibly important when holding space, in my opinion. I dont believe in a one size fits all approach to healing but I do think everyone deserves to feel worthy. Helping people change their lives for the better brings me so much joy on many different levels.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are currently in Hudson, NY, moving on in a few weeks but it has been wonderful place for our family for the last few years. We are big on food so typically when friends come we cook, by we I mean my husband. We might stop by our favorite restaurants here feast & floret or lil debs oasis. They are completely different places one is very classic, warm and refined Id say the other is the coolest restaurant I’ve ever been to with colorful people, food and music. We’d hang in our farmhouse, look at my husbands latest paintings in his studio thats on our property, drink red wine, make a fire outside while our son and pup run around. We are chill and have seen a lot – its really nice to be settled and happy – content enough to stay home and welcome people we love into our space to enjoy the life we’ve built.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Hue! He is an incredibly talented artist and an amazing partner, we are both entrepreneurs raising our son Milo together and working from our home. It is such a powerful thing to have someone encouraging you on every level, that’s what we do for each other, we are truly a team.
